Pleasantly surprized. Live in Europe and flew to SA to renew passport. I found it to be totally painless, quick and efficient, with accessible staff to help. Don't know whether others will disagree with me, but I found it to be pretty good, and the entire process took maybe 45 minutes. PS: Don't take cash - they only accept bank cards.

WOW! Never before have i had such great service from a Gov Dept. Every member of staff was helpful, the office were clean tidy and well demarcated for where you need to sit/go etc. Special mention to Ms. Nolusindiso Wulana who sorted our kids Foreign Birth Certificates out in very quick time. One tip... book an appointment online and arrive 30 min before, you'll be in and out in 45 min.Thank you all for the great service!

Things run smoothly - from outside queues to inside. Staff are efficient enough, just epically understaffed. Spent over 6 hours to get a smart ID (including photos, application and payment). Seems you'll save about and two to three hours if you apply online (too bad I couldn't submit my application online due to a site error). Not too terrible. CT HOME Affairs is more chaotic. Just bring something quiet to do or be prepared to count tiles, and lights and shoes and, and and...

I just had to make an outstanding payment and was in and out under an hour. Be prepared to wait if you don’t have an appointment. Ladies at enquiry are friendly and efficient. The moody cashier needs a Snickers chocolate.

Went to Home Affairs in Goven Mbeki for first ID application, unabridged birth certificate and a passport application with my children . Security was friendly and helpful. Everything else went smooth and it was fast. All applications and issue of new birth certificate was done under an hour. Really great service. I am impressed!

Went in to apply for my ID card today. Highly recommended that you complete the online application first. Take a printout of the confirmation and it allows you to join the 2nd queue inside and not the one out the door and around the corner. Unfortunately they experienced an offline problem today resulting in me taking 3 hours (8am till 11am) to get this done. Staff were friendly, unfortunately they can't do much about an offline/slow system. Ticketing system works quite well although their 2nd screen showing the number called wasn't working and not all the numbers called were displayed on the only working screen.
