A most spectacular area of the Berg. Imposing scenic views 360 degrees. Trails to accommodate all levels of fitness.A must visit. The camp is run well, staff are responsive to requests or complaints.Frequent camp visits by heads of Eland in the night.Blessed to site both the Eland and the renowned vulture in the area.

Great location, with stunning views. Rooms are slightly outdated but had everything we needed and loved the fireplace inside them. Would recommend to take a berg view unit. Breakfasts were good at the restaurant, but shop at reception has very little stock so bring everything that you need.

We recently spent 4 nights there, and what an incredible place! The views were unbeatable. The rooms were spacious, clean and well looked after - we stayed in Chelate's 42 and 43 (would highly recommend in terms of the privacy and beautiful balcony set up over looking the mountains. A huge shout out needs to go to the staff there who were so friendly and helpful!Just be weary of the roads, they are pretty hellish getting there from both Mooi River and Nottingham Rd

The road to Giants Castle is decent and can be accessed by most vehicles.Giants Castle is a great place for an adventure filled getaway!Awesome accommodation in their hutted camp. There is a restaurant and curio store. The hikes are also amazing, ranging from beginner to advanced. We did a 3 day hike from Giants camp.Up Bannermans pass, a short Traverse along escarpment and down Langalibalele pass.Spent the first night at Bannermans hut. Which has 8 bunk beds and a lekker table, bench and works surfaces, and the hut is in good shape. There are no mattresses or anything else in the hut, so take along a camping mattress and pillow (usual overnight camping equipment). Can book the hut through Ezemvelo! We then hiked up Bannermans pass, in the rain, which was freezing, even in summer! We stopped at Spare Rib Cave, which is about halfway up the pass. This is a lekker big cave, can probably sleep 10. But is very wet in summer, so I would take a tent along and set that up. Winter should be relatively dry inside!Bannermans pass is very steep and there is some fun Rocky sections near the top, which are part stream, part waterfall during the rainy season. The Traverse across to Langalibalele is relatively straightforward as you head south along the escarpment for about 4km.We camped the 2nd night at the top of Langalibalele pass. The hike down I pretty straightforward, although you do descend about 1200m in approximately 10km all the way back to Giants hutted camp. The entire route is approximately 30km round trip, with about 1600m elevation gain and approximately the same amount of descent. This is not a beginners hike and should be planned properly or a guide should be used if unsure of the area! Please Always Carry a map, charged cell phone and enough warm gear! And don't be fooled, it can snow in the Drakensberg in summer!Hope this helps :)

Idyllic place. Great views and natural beauty. The rooms need alot of tlc.The staff are pleasant but not extremely helpful. The restuarant is reasonable for breakfast. Limited choice of breakfast food. The money you pay is for the views not for the room's.

Amazing place, would love to visit again. Though the overall experience was very enjoyable there were a couple of things that needs to be addressed.Hiking in the mountains were the best part of our trip even though the map doesn't correctly show the distance of each route. The breakfast servered in the morning was the second thing I looked forward to each day. There were plenty of options to choose from. The service in the resort was lacking a bit. There were little to no items available in the shop except for the merchandise(shirts, beads, giftcards), sweets and coffee. It was nice that a cleaner would come and clean the chalet every day.

A hidden gem! Best way to spend a weekend away, away from the hustle and bustle. Felt so connected to nature and safe to do hikes around. The rangers are present along the mountains and always offering advice and service. The bushman cave tour is incredible! A river swim is just divine!

I stayed at the Giants Castle Resort for 3 nights in December, and must admit, one will be hard pressed to find a resort with a more stunning location in the Drakensberg, or in South Africa for that matter. Nestled in the middle of the central Drakensberg mountains, surrounded by some of the most stunning scenery the country has to offer, it offers views that are hard to beat. The cabins/rooms are comfortable, and have all of the basic amenities one needs for a comfortable stay. The decor is somewhat dated, but everything was neat and tidy. The rooms are also cleaned on a daily basis. Staff at the resort was extremely friendly and helpful, and the buffet breakfast, although relatively basic, was delicious.Needless to say, the surrounding scenery is spectacular. A visit to the Main Caves Museum for a glimpse of bushmen life, and paintings is a must. So is a number of the hikes on offer in the area. The only downside of the resort is that the cabins are fairly close to one another, and some might not offer the privacy one would like in a beautiful setting like this. I'll also highly recommend paying extra for a Mountain View cabin, as the view is absolutely worth it.

Still a very pretty place, but run down and dated. The beds were comfortable and kitchen had everything we needed, but bathroom needs an update. The convenience store has almost nothing in the form of groceries or milk, bread or rolls. Fridges almost empty, except for small bottles of water and juices. Very disappointing, as we thought we would get our bread, rolls and other items from them. Mask situation is not controlled by staff and patrons walked around restaurant without masks. This being in the start of the fifth wave. Other than that, the views were beautiful and the light snowfall on the mountain tops were a beautiful sight. We would not return, especially since we used to visit quite often 20 years ago and know what it was like. Pity, it was fresh and of high standard compared to how low budget it is now, except for the booking costs, which remains high.
