Van Reenen's Pass

Van Reenen's Pass is a *short pass* and not that difficult, or Dangerous to drive. It is however extremely busy with thousands of trucks any time of the day on the N3 (between Durban and Gauteng). It is very green and also a beautiful scenic drive.

Absolutely loathe driving through this area. There are too many trucks and they literally want to kick you off the road.

Stunning views. Tranquil.

On our way southwards on the N 3 , from Bethlehem to the Indic, we everytime experience, we are now in KwaZulu Natal and the Free State is just behind us.A scenic pass, a joyful ride, if the traffic it allows. In every case stunning views left- and rightsides the window. Look at the Drakensberge in the west, south-west. Ahead another toll gate, Tugela Toll Plaza. If you are not in a hurry or wants to avoid the toll there is an alternate route. In Harrismith turn on the N5 towards Bethlehem and then turn left on theR 74 towards Bergville/Winterton. An awesome route along the Sterkfontein Dam over the Oliviershoek Pass along the Drakensberg mountains rightsides. Finally use the ramp north of Estcourt to follow further the N3.

Beautiful sights. Not for the faint hearted when you don't like heights. The traffic moves slow, but i will suggest to pull over and enjoy the views. Lovely to see this country still have awesome sights.

We travel this road often on our way down to Durban ,such a scenic view ,at time can be quite hazard as they get a lot of mist on this spot plus very busy with the trucks .Photos captured on my Phantom 4

The Indian restaurant, Maharaj's is really amazing! The place is as neat as a pin and cosy.The food value and quality is on point.I'll definitely visit again soon!
