De Wet Saal

On the first Saturday of each month it is our pleasure to trundle down the road from Voëlklip to Onrus but more specifically to the de Wet Saalwhere the Onrus markie is held.It is a rustiger markie with no loud music but ladies with aprons and gasstofies turning out bushels of pancakes, kids playing on the lawns and dogs a plenty.Then to mention just a few of my favourites:The plant stalls where one finds a variety at an extremely reasonable price. With great advice from the gardeners who love their hobby.Alexander, who makes the to die for Apfel Strudel and Plum tarts. ( Family recipe) .The viskoekie tannie, the table with the family of crocheters who produce amongst other things, the most darling little animals and teddies in a rainbow of colours about 3inches tall and costing R10 each.!I love them and buy a few each visit.My children and grandchildren are grown, maar ek speel nog pop and have them on my wash stand where they brighten my day ! I would not mention it here but I have little chats with them as I pass.There is so much to mention The lady and her grandchildren who are really proud of their bottled goods. Alles in die kombuis by ons huis gemaak" and I could write pages about the previously read and loved bookstall where yesterday I bought 7 beautiful books for R53 !But it is a crisp sunny day and the outdoors is a calling.So go see for yourself. It's simply wonderful."

De Wet Saal in Onrus host the Onrus Markie every first Saturday of a month. With locals selling their stuff from food to gifts to plants really worth a visit when you are in town.

Place is clean including the bathrooms /toilets appears save good ventilation l love to it in reach of the community

A well organized market that has been going since 2004. It is well run, well supported and the vendors are like a family. Awesome visit
