Glentana shipwreck
Great walk. Easy and quick during low tide, a bit more difficult when the tide is higher. The wreck itself is rusting away quickly and actually unimpressive as it was a floating dock only. Still the nature makes it worth the trouble. Continuing further reveals some lovely secluded beaches and caves worth exploring. Just a pity about all the rubbish washing in.

Glentana shipwreck
It is a beautiful walk of about 30 minutes from Glentana. A combination of sand and rocky beaches.

Glentana Shipwreck and the hike is a flat hike and if you time at the low tide it will be 100% flat sand beach but on higher tides, it will be 90% flat and 10% over a rocky path. Depending on how much exercise you want to put in, but if you start at the parking at entrance 1 – the walk will be 4,4km/entrance 2 parking is 6,8 km, and entrance 1 parking is 9,8 km. The beach is beautiful and the shipwreck which was grounded in 1906 is majestic. I strongly suggest that you pack in a swimming costume as at the wreck there is a sheltered bay for pleasant swimming without the strong tides. I noted a remote individual house at the wreck on the hill, however, I am not sure whether it is for hire or is owned. A spectacular walk is even easy for kids around 10 years and above.

Glentana shipwreck
A floating Dock from 1902, made in Britain and towed to Durban. Broke its towing line in rough seas and was washed ashore at Glentana.320ft. in length, 80ft. wide, 36ft. high with a lifting capacity of 4500 tons. Only accessible at low tide. 1 hour walk from Glentana.Plenty of very interesting Caves on the way and beyond and rough seas. Bring your fishing rod.

Glentana shipwreck
Beautiful hike, best done in low tide, otherwise you will need to do some rock scrambling. Scenery is absolutely stunning. Some rocks are quite high and may be challenging, especially for kids and people who are less fit.

Beautiful walk and interesting shipwreck. Make sure it’s low tide when you go. About 1.5km from the Visgraat Restaurant

Beautiful scenery all the way to the wreck and back. Not difficult to walk and not far for a normal walk. Keep to low tide times.
