We had a lovely meal. The sushi was delicious and different to the normal boring sushi from the buy one get one free" places. The kids loved their fish and chips and my husband was impressed with the kingklip and calamari combo. The side salad was lovely (it's usually an after thought!). The waiter was friendly and efficient and the manager was very hands on. Overall a very nice experience."

The worst fish and zucchini fries ever. Fish very dry and not great. The zucchini had soo much batter on it. Most disappointing!

I ordered a meal through Mr D last night and was disappointed with what Ocean Basket sent. I received squid heads instead of calamari and only half a fish. This needs to be managed better.

We missed Ocean Basket due to us living overseas so while we are here on holiday, we made an effort to come for dinner. We had the family meal deal with a salmon sushi entree and it was absolutely delicious! We left very happy. Our waitress (Sduduzo) was so lovely and checked on us during the night as well as the manager. I was with a 92 year old granny and they made her feel so comfortable. I’d definitely recommend the Hillcrest Ocean Basket!

The experience was okay, could have been better. Staff were not trained to differentiate between what's vegan & not. Also, the ingredients used in the veg sushi are not listed on the menu. Hence, you need to ensure that you state you are vegan & ask the waitron to carefully go over the ingredients with you. Cream cheese & mayo used are not vegan so ensure that these are removed when you order the veg sushi.The owner is a friendly guy & ensured that we were comfortable, placing candles on our table, as we had many flies coming in from the outside, rendering the experience a tad unpleasant. Yeah, flies are an issue at this place & it was not that busy. My parents did not enjoy their fish dishes & my husbae & son were disappointed in the sushi. Their Maki were so tiny as well & they indicated that the salmon was not fresh. My daughter's meal was okay. There is room for improvement at this place.

I am terribly disappointed about Ocean Basket Hillcrest, it has to be the worst I've been at. I got there with my family the restaurant was empty,fine. We ordered, the starters came and they had an insect, had to take them back and the second one's were took hot and burnt... We ordered baby hakes and sushi but wrong order came, but we didn't complain because I felt like we had been complaining only to find flies again in the soy sauce and the waiter was not so nice because it seems like she wasn't happy about the fact that we complained about the insects for the second. Just when I thought it won't get any worse, she bought another sauce and said the insects can't be from their sauce because they keep them in the fridge, sounded as if she was implying that we're to be blamed for them. She bought another bowls for sauce but they had insects, honestly saying I was disappointed is an understatement.. Also asked for a candle for flies because they were too much flies flying around while we were trying to eat but I never go it. We ended up leaving without finishing our food.
