De Wildt Cheetah Lodge
Completed the 12.5km De Wildt Wild Dog trail (2 x Garmin devices logged it as 11.9km and 653m elevation gain) with heavy packs as training for a multi-day hike. Enjoyable trail with constant change of terrain and scenery. This is also 1 of the best-marked trails we've come across. Would recommend this trail as training for a multi-day hike or if looking for a good challenge. Minimal shade on the trail so a hat, lots of water and sunblock is a must, as well as snacks. Start the trail as early as possible to avoid climbing most of the ascents in blistering heat. Terrain is rocky as expected on the Magaliesburg escarpment - recommend hiking boots with decent grip. The last 2km of the trail is within the kloof which is shady with lots of tree cover - would be a good place to stop for lunch (if lunch on the trail is preferred). Good food available at the lodge at the end of the trail (and we were informed that vegan options are also available). The De Wildt team are pleasant to communicate with, and very helpful. Extremely responsive via WhatsApp and willing to answer all questions. Would recommend this trail, without a doubt!

Great place, the route is clearly marked. We did the 21km trail, it was challenging under the heat, make sure you bring atleast 5 litres of water , some fruits and electrolytes, you will need along the way. Beautiful scenic view of the hills and dam. Took us 7 hours of walking to complete the trail. We really enjoyed it. Also bring a good pair of hiking shoes for the terrain and just keep walking 1 step at a timeRemember the secret after climbing a great is you only find that there are more hills to climb

What an amazing experience. Can’t believe we have not been before. Routes are very well marked, easy to follow and clean. Hope visitors keep looking after the environment. The views are spectacular. Look out for raptors and vultures. I did the Wild Dog 12km and loved the trail – it is difficult and not for the unfit. Can’t wait to plan the next trail run. I will also recommend stay over at the Cheetah Lodge – many birds in the beautiful tranquil garden.

The stay at Cheetah lodge was lekker".We were so relaxed. Just what we needed.A few things missing in the rooms.A place to hang your clothes.A small kettle in the room will be nice for that very late or very early graving to coffee or tea."

Friendly owners and staff, always willing to accommodate. I have had many beautiful hikes at De Wildt Cheetah Lodge and De Wildt Adventure Trails and will come back again and again. The trails are well marked and beautifully maintained and the mountain is pristine.

This is a neatly kept lodge with a beautiful view towards the magaliesberg mountain range. Stunning rooms and outdoor tented rooms. A quint little chapel and lots of fun to be had for.parties , bachelors and so much more. Great place!!!

The lodge is a great escape from the hustle and bustle. The staff is always friendly and try their best to accommodate your needs. There is also good food and good craft beer.
