Battlefields Country Lodge & Sports Resort

The hotel has dropped in terms of standards and quality since I last stayed there. Food was mediocre and the room was sub-standard.

This place is in dire need of a complete renovation. The hotel is in the eastern part of South Africa and thus affected by load shedding for which it can't be blamed but there are no emergency lights and you're left in pitch darkness when it happens. Also out back is the generator, which seemed as if it was right next to the kitchen window, so power can be supplied to the main building. You can hear this fairly constantly as the windows don't close properly and it's only single glazed. Also the tap fittings are loose. You're told to turn on hot tap in the basin before taking a shower and the water is hot. However, if you need to wash your hands in the basin the hot water is too hot and the cold water is barely there. The tap for the kitchen wobbles all over the place. The hook in the shower room is not fixed in properly so if you have anything just on the top hook it'll spin around dropping your items onto the floor. As for the food, it's basic and if you go for the buffet option you can only go the once. This makes for waste as you're not sure if you have enough on your plate so you can be tempted to overload your plate rather than have a smaller portion and then go back if not satisfied.

Not a good experience at all. Whifi hardly connects, no iron or iron board in rooms, no telephone to contact reception. Room in desperate need of some paint and fixing up. Food hall lacked basic stuff like tomato sauce and other sauses. The property is beautiful thou with a very nice little pond and some friendly ostriches.. not a place I would likely visit again. ☹️

Well sited for access to the battlefields that it is named after.Friendly staff. Lovely food. Nice rooms. Not up to the standards of the Ritz but this is rural Zululand. I have seen some ridiculously priced London hotels that provided facilities far inferior to those here. I loved it.

Battlefield Country Lodge is beautiful, rooms are clean and very specious.However there us a lot of room for improvement in terms of their hospitality I was not happy with dinner serve and food was very limited. Secondly the lodge ruined out of water first morning were there, nobody cared enough to inform us of this challenge and no arrangements were made to assist, we only took a bath after 6 PM when the water issue was finally sorted.

I wouldn’t recommend staying here. Terrible WiFi in the rooms, rooms are in need of maintenance, TV audio is poor, no cutlery despite having a kitchen, only instant coffee (Ricoffy in rooms), no fruit or vegetables on offer for breakfast

Kitchen staff 5 out of 5 for the food.Reception staff 2 out of 5 for unfriendliness Zaleni. Smile please. We pay your salary.Rooms clean but we had to wait till afternoon for towels.Generator ran out of diesel.No wifi3 tv channelsBreakfast outstanding but the organizing and delivering lacks a manager.Swimming pool very bad not like the advertisement at all.Grounds not clean no management.

Great place to visit the Battlefields from. Good breakfast and dinner. There are ostriches, impala and springboks in the grounds. Rooms have all you need.
