Old Mill Drift Guest Farm

We had a truly amazing experience at the Old Mill drift Guest Farm. The accommodation is rustic, but with everything you might need.The instructions on their website is also thorough, giving you an idea of what to bring and expect.Yvonne and the staff were so helpful and friendly, making us feel at home on this working farm.We were lucky to be there when a little fowl was born. Such a cool experience to see the baby on day one and then see it's first time going out in the field.I can highly recommend this for anyone looking for an amazing countryside break.There is very little cellphone reception and you end up roaming on the Lesotho Vodacom tower. Make sure to switch Data Roaming off.The guest lodge does sell access to their wifi, if needed.The road to the lodge starts as a 7km tar road (lots of potholes) and then the last bit is 3km of dirt road. Make sure to chat to the team to find out the state of the road. We did it in a slightly raised car, without any issues. No 4x4 needed when we went. We also so some standard VW polos, so not an issue.The mountains and trails are spectacular. Definitely worth a visit to this pet friendly lodge.

Absolutely stunning location views and service. Ablutions however not so good, had very bad smells floating around site 3 for the whole weekend, suspect 2 showers and two toilets in each of the two bathroom insuffucient for fully booked long weekend, one of 2 showers in one bathroom blocked and overflowing whole weekend and no hot water evening before our departure, was told by friends gasbottles were replaced next morning... Also, only one basin in one bathroom that one cannot use if particular shower is occupied. Will return but only out of season or during the week when not busy. Hiking routes wellmarked and dogs from the farm that accompanied us were a pleasant addition to our group.

An absolute hidden gem if ever there was one. They have various accommodation options as well as camping. There are endless hikes, walks, 4x4 routes, quad bike trails, the most magnificent views amd of course the highlight for us was the tubbing down the Caledon River right on the border of Lesotho.The tubbing takes about 1.5hrs with some fun small rapids. After you can enjoy a picnic at one of the beaches" and enjoy swimming in the crisp clear water while enjoying views of the Maluti Mountains.Yvonne and her team are well organized and we had a great time."

The place was so beautiful but the only problem we encountered was the noise level complaint. I fail to understand how they expected 14 family members who came to enjoy themselves on a Vac to keep their voices low.And I felt like there was a Racial thing going on between us and the other guests. If the Farm is for Whites only clearly state that before we book the place.For Diversity I give a 4/10

Room was delightful with all the necessary needed to cook and have a lovely stay. I'd recommend bringing your own emergency lights as power outage is a big problem through no fault of their own. Beautiful walks and very pet friendly.

Not value for money. I was booked in Duiker one of the Camping style unit.At a day rate of R1 065 the following problems occurred. (Which it above any other facility with similar or even better accommodation for less)• The unit’s floor was rotten. Multiple of the floor planks broke during our stay. When I requested it to be fixed the repose was “We are too busy”;• The campsites septic tank was overfull and especially in the morning the odour was unbearable. “The response was we need to order a truck and it can’t happen now.”;• Although WiFi is advertised with the unit you need to drive to reception to connect as the campsite does not have connection.• When I enquired about fishing as the local dam the response was. ”We, have not stock our dam, there is no fish in it and the river is been fished by the locals”;• The bathroom needs urgent maintances. There are only two basins available of which one is in a shower/toilet cubicle and broken. A fresh coat of paint will do it the world of good.• A picknick next to the river is not possible. The plant growth does not allow you to get close and the second problem is the locals and begging is an unpleasant experience.I will not recommend it to anyone. Although the surroundings are beautiful it is not value for money.

This was our second visit to this farm and we will be coming back for sure!The house we rented was everything we needed: spacious rooms, a fire place and a well equiped kitchen. There is an outside braai and from there you have a lovely view of the mountains. Wifi is also supplied.The staff is always friendly and very helpful. They helped the kids to interact with the horses and geese. We were also supplied with enough fire wood at no extra charge.We especially enjoyed the fire place in the evenig and early mornings. Coffee on the stoep and the Maluti mountains is memories we will cherish.

We loved this place! Very quiet and relaxing, will definitely visit again!
