Southern Warriors Shotokan karate dojo

You could probably do better for yourself and your children.The training at the facility is good… however it’s what comes with it that makes Southern Warriors karate dojo a 2-star. There are other things but the three top reasons in my opinion are:1. The facility is basic. Clients must purchase their own equipment to use in the classes. There are no showers or change rooms - the centre toilets are available for use but these are also used by the patrons of the downstairs bar in the afternoon.2. The safety - (or lack thereof!) at the dojo. The door has to be locked as there are shops that have been held up at gun and knife point. The centre that the studio is in is probably fine during the day but it is pretty dodgy around the times of the evening classes.3. It’s not about the client and the attitude is punitive. The studio doesn’t use a client-centred approach and aren’t too concerned with keeping customers. Clients must adhere to very rigid rules or are kicked out. Closure of the gym for personal reasons (not those mandated by the president) are not remunerated or made up.It’s not the worst you’ll find, and is affordable but like so many otherf things in life, you get what you pay for. And as they don’t offer anything unique in the form of training you’ll probably do well going elsewhere.EDIT:I think the tone of the below response is telling, as are the 5-star reviews all posted only after a unflattering review. 1-star for pettiness.

My 8 year old son has been attending the dojo for just under a year and he LOVES it. I don’t have to tell him twice when it’s time to get dressed for karate!He has the utmost respect and admiration for Sensei Paul (yes I use this to my advantage when blackmail is necessary haha) and we love that it’s a family-oriented centre.

Life changing fitness classes with the world's most devoted, incredible trainer. Quality, high intense classes that keep you going back for more. My favourite place with my favourite people!! Would give more then 5 stars if I could⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐

Love all the classes! Amazing workouts from an excellent fitness trainer. The passion and dedication is evident from Alex and Paul at the Southern Warriors Shotokan karate dojo and fitness center.Truly one of a kind! I highly recommend.

The best gym classes with the best gym instructor. Honestly couldn't ask for more. Thank you for the best gym sessions!

I have joined the Alex fitness fam about a month ago, they were very clear on what was expected of each person, book on time, cancel if you cannot make it etc. They have never falsely advertised that they were a proper gym with all the added facilities or benefits, Alex is awesome when you walk into any one of her fitness classes you get what you pay for FITNESS ". Love the fitness classes hosted by Alex. I have never met a more dedicated, passionate and wonderful instructor. Been attending the classes for nearly a year, Alex and together with her husband Paul (Sensei) have created a “gym family” culture which I love. It’s definitely my happy place.

Loved the step class with Alex and karate classes with Sensei Paul! Would definitely recommend either classes if you are looking to change your life for the better and to be healthier!

Southern Warriors is so much more than a Dojo!It is a safe haven where you can reshape your body and renew your mind.It is a great gym culture that only a select few can follow.It is a sanctuary where I have been able to find balance within myself.If you feel the need for positive change in your life, then this is the vibrant change you need!!
