Peak High Mountaineering

I have done a few courses with Gavin and plan to do a few more. Gavin is an amazing teacher with a wide knowledge of the outdoors. I look forward to the next course or trip I attend.

We went on an incredible adventure with Gavin to the Drakensburg mountains. We climbed Beacon Buttress, Tugela Falls and Sentinel Peak and slept in a cave on the mountain. We thoroughly enjoyed the experience, the views and scenery, as well as the challenge and fulfillment of the hiking and climbing. Most of all we really appreciated the guidance of Gavin and Peak High, and the help in this trip and we could not and would not have had the same trip without him. All that he did for us and the expertise and knowledge he brought with him was priceless! Looking forward to possibly doing another trip!

I had a dream to come from New Zealand to South Africa to go on a wild climbing trip. I contacted Gavin and we began to craft my dream. He wassuper knowledgeable and informative about what he thought would suit me best to get the most out of the trip. We met up and he was very approachable and professional which put me at ease straight away knowing that this was going to be a relaxed fun trip. He looked after everything and all I had to do was focus on my climbing. More importantly, he dallied in really quickly and picked out perfect climbs that suited me so I could get the most out of my climbing time. Gavin is the perfect host and will cook you a classic brayy at dinner time. Sitting around the fire at night tucking into his tasty meals ,watching the stars and surrounded by good quality conversation was the perfect end to an amazing days climbing.Gavin's skills will put you at ease while climbing and his wealth of historical knowledge of South Africa is limitless, so make sure you pick his brains. My time with Gavin was the highlight of our 5 weeks spent in SA and i will definitely be looking him up again when I make it back.

I can highly recommend Gavin's multi-pitch sport climbing course. He is a consummate professional with a relaxed, confidence inspiring manner borne of many years of experience across of facets of climbing and hiking.

We did the MDT Rock climbing skills course with Gavin. A totally new world opened and will definitely be back to learn more so that we can start to enjoy the local rock in SA.Gavin is very professional, patient and a safe climber.His book Drakensberg" has plenty of info...a must buy!Thank you."

I recently did the MDT Mountain Leader course with Gavin at Peak High. The course is well structured and upon completion I feel equipped and confident to start using the skills covered in the the course. Gavin is a great instructor, confident, safe and has a wealth of knowledge to answer any questions related to the industry. I certainly hope to do more courses with Peak High in the future and highly recommend Peak High to others!!!

Gavin is one of the most legendary mountaineers of South Africa and is certainly one of the go-to guys for training and guiding.Gavin knows the Drakensberg mountains better than any other person in the world (quite literally) and I would chose him over any other guide in the country to keep me safe in the Drakensberg mountains!I have attended the MDT training course with Gavin and have grown up hearing stories about him.Gavin can also be super chilled out and up for friendly banter in the mountains ;)

The challenge: I wanted to climb the highest peaks of South Africa, Lesotho and Swaziland. Decided to reach out to Gavin from Peak High Mountaineering who agreed to support me and organized the logistics in an excellent way.Perfect accommodation, good selection of local guides and porters where needed and optimal preparation of the hikes.Gavin also showed broad knowledge of the history of the Drakensberg area an South Africa. He is a legend and surely the best guide for exploring the Drakensberg region!

Abseiling supervisor course with Gavin was absolutely epic, quite likely the most enjoyable training course I have attended. Gavin's calm and relaxed approach and immense knowledge made for a highly worthwhile experience. Couldn't recommend Peak High more. I'll be back
