Waenhuiskrans, also known as Arniston

A unique place in South Africa next to the relatively warm Indian Ocean, with the only traditional fishing village in the country. One can write books on the town, a place we visit several times a year, including our regular holiday over New Year. The village abounds with happiness, children and parents swimming, hiking and having fun. It is interesting to note an absence of visitors in the 17 to (about) 30 year age gap; in late teens the kids seem to lose interest in coming to this family orientated village and they stay away for about 10 years before they return with their own babies. And so the cycle goes on. An improvement on Roman Beach, the main one, over the 2019/20 New Year was policing of dogs on the swimming beach. Despite several clear signs some dog owners persist on bringing dogs onto the beach, leashed or not. Police and security politely asked them to leave. In the past dogs have created problems, not the least was pooing.There is so much to do, including buying fresh fish, hiking to the wreck, the cave, the beacon and Galjoengat. We never tire of Arniston.
