SPAR Wilderness

Unfortunately the new Spar in Wilderness is seriously lacking, from the disinterested staff in the store, to the shouting & swearing staff on their break eating lunch on upturned crates around the corner against the building, to the litter & cigarette butts everywhere due to the lack of dustbins & poor training, to the fact that the new Spar has not integrated with the local Wilderness Village feel at all, it’s just not what it could’ve been but hopefully it can be turned around.

I love this store and the staff are always helpful and friendly. But they lose stars on the use of ridiculous single use packaging. Two lemons wrapped in Styrofoam and plastic. Lemons do not need to be wrapped in plastic! Please move away from single use plastic and unneeded packaging.

During our journey along the scenic Garden Route, we had the pleasure of stopping in Wilderness to explore a local market. Upon returning to our car, we found that the remote wasn't functioning, leading us to believe the battery needed replacement. Fortunately, a Spar supermarket was just nearby. We were delighted to encounter exceptional service from Charlene Petersen (as stated on receipt) and another kind gentleman whose name we regretfully didn't catch. The gentleman not only replaced the battery but also accompanied us to our vehicle to ensure everything was in working order, turning a potentially frustrating experience into a memorable encounter. :)

A great looking store in terms of the building and set up however disappointing in their offering. Nothing much in terms of health, eco and innovative products. It’s pity the store didn’t evolve its offerings in line with their recent renovations. Hopefully that will change soon.

The new Spar in Wilderness is bigger than the old one was. The prices are less suitable for locals, as they are calculated specifically for tourism. The range of fruit and vegetables cannot match Food Lovers, Woolworths or Golden Harvest in George. I was hoping to have a shopping source in Wilderness now, but I will continue to go to George as the prices are excessive to my liking. There were almost no special offers on my last visit either. Apart from that, the shop is modern and offers everything you need, at least for emergency purchases or for tourists. It is by no means a substitute for the large selection of supermarkets in George. The cash registers are not equipped in such a way that you can follow the checkout process. You only find out if everything has been scanned correctly when you get your shopping receipt.

Constantly encountering stale produce past their sellby dates; have given up complaining about it. The front of the store looks nice but around the back it’s shocking. No staff facilities, noisy staff sitting around against walls and on creates during breaks. No toilets so delivery staff relieving themselves in the bushes in front of private homes and guest house. Vegetation in a shocking condition despite pretty architect design pictures. Coffee shop on premises with no public ablution facilities - is that even legal?
