If I had an overseas visitor whom I wanted to introduce to the joys of Highveld food, I would treat them to Groenkloof boerewors on the hottest of coals and their thick cut lamb chops done in the oven to medium rare. This boerie needs no trappings and condiments. Done on a scorchingly hot fire, bravely turned only once, it delivers a crisp skin around a juicy centre with just enough salt, fat and coriander to balance each other. That snap as you break off another piece and the juices run out... Eish... Worth a trip from anywhere. There is an associated restaurant next to the Groenkloof Oos branch of the butchery where you can enjoy a boerie and a beer immediately if the road home is too long. Trust me, it is too long even if you live next door! Many other meaty dishes available, of course, but those are for people who have had the luxury of having had the boerie scores of times. It is not cheap at R122/kg (as at June 30 2022) but this is an unforgettable cultural icon and cheap at the price. I would rather eat a kilo of this wors with a friend or two on my stoep than enduring yet another forgettable steak in a 5 star establishment. And I would come out ahead in every possible way! So, yes, it is that good and that special. Add this humble destination to your bucket list and die happy!

Rotten lamb chops, made everyone sick the night before . When we wanted to warn them about the lamb chops the butcher was rude and put the phone down on us. Nice customer care service. Will never be back.

Definitely the best butchery in South Africa. Top quality meat. Boerewors and chicken fillets are unlike any other. Nothing beats Groenkloof Slaghuis.

Excellent selection of meats, biltong, droë wors and other items. Very friendly and professional service from staff to assist you with your purchases. Definitely recommend for a visit. Ample parking on site but can become busy at peak times.

Personally I don't like the feel of the butchery. They do not do any bulk monthly packs. No grass fed meat. The lady assisting wasn't that helpful. But can add I have eaten a steak from this butchery that was truly amazing.
