Woolworths Greenacres
A cornerstone of an exceptional business is its unwavering promise of a good customer service experience. This is propped up by customer service custodians willing to go the extra mile. Contrary to this notion, and in no uncertain terms, it was anything but on my most recent trip to Woolworths Greenacres on 29/03/2023, where I endured one of the worst shopping experiences. Zintle Plaatjie is a nonchalant cashier with a demeaning nature and an obnoxious attitude. What should have been a pleasant interaction at about 5pm on Wednesday, quickly turned wry when, at the point of contact, Plaatjie failed dismally to exhibit the known warmth and friendliness often experienced on a visit to the acclaimed retailer. In the frame of about eight minutes at her express point-of-sale (POS) station (till 7), Plaatjie staggered to conduct the transaction with efficacy. Naturally, this impacted the service time. It became an exhausting, elongated circus as Plaatjie, who is supposed to be POS-competent, appeared ill-trained on the process to follow to redeem WRewards vouchers and split payments between the Woolworths store card and debit card, my chosen payment methods. Twice, Plaatjie called her supervisor, the store’s pay-point coordinator (PPC), Aronia Stride, to void the transaction and redo it. Her superior, in doing so, questioned the steps she missed or did not understand. Plaatjie, at first, had scanned the WRewards vouchers on my phone without swiping my Woolworths store card to enable the vouchers to go through, and barked at me to draw my attention to this “anomaly”. Calmly, so as not to reciprocate her aggression, I refused to leave it at that. Stride, who attended to the query with a cold disposition from another till, voided the transaction. However, she offered no greeting as part of the normal customer interaction lifecycle or dealing with a bottleneck. She proceeded to swipe my store card, leaving Plaatjie to scan my basket of 11 items a second time. Afterwards, the cashier motioned for my store card to process payment. This time, without making use of my redeemable vouchers. To make matters worse, I retrieved the phone from my pocket, which, retrospectively, should not have been necessary, to calculate my actual payment. This was contrary to Plaatjie’s preconceived notion I had to make payment on a higher amount. It was disappointing to witness this lack of presence of mind and gap in knowledge. Stride, after a visibly agitated Plaatjie again called for her, knew to swipe my store card first to activate WRewards discounts on it before repeating the action to process payment, along with scanning my vouchers. As expected, the vouchers were redeemed and the transactions passed as Stride, in front of me as a customer, demonstrated to Plaatjie how to action split payments. However, and quite glaringly, Stride offered no apology for Plaatjie’s harrowing incompetence or the unfathomable delay. Not least a modicum of remorse from the cashier herself, which I realise my hopes were too high to expect in the first place. Plaatjie’s service levels, unfriendliness and lack of POS know-how were deplorable. Ultimately, Stride, like her subordinate, had no due consideration of the impact this would have on customer satisfaction. As a loyal Woolies customer for over a decade, this sour experience, which inevitably has left a bad taste in my mouth, compels me to call on friends, family, acquaintances and others of a discerning mind demanding impeccable quality service levels, to desist from shopping at this store. I wholly and unreservedly disapprove of the hostility with which my business was met. Instead, I advocate for an improvement in the standards. I am available to rehash the sentiments herein expressed to the customer service head.

Have been shopping at Woolworths Greenacres for years and years. Their staff are always friendly and professional. The store always smells and looks clean. My only complaint is that it gets very busy but that cannot be helped. It can be a schlep to queue but the staff make it worth it, the cashiers are always really friendly and nice, which can make or break a good or bad experience in a shop. Keep it Greenacres Woolies! You seem to have a winning formula.

Woolworths Greenacres is by far the best Woolies in PE! As a regular shopper there I am never disappointed with the service or delivery I receive from the staff. They are always very friendly, helpful and polite. If something is not on the floor, it is no trouble for them to go to the stock room and assist you. A special thanks to Durell in the ladies department, Jade at customer services and Aldean on the switchboard.Five stars for customer service!
