Overall the dormitory was satisfactory enough: no trouble during my stay. Bed: OK, Kitchen: OK, Shower: OK, Locker: OK. I remember booking one day tour in Capetown with good price.

I saw something similar to Pieter's experience when I was there. Someone paid up and then late in the evening, she was asked to leave through no fault of her own but because staff had given her bed to someone else. She was manhandled outside by security when she tried to argue.Cape Town is an EXTREMELY dangerous city at any time for a single female traveller (or for anyone for that matter), and to turf a girl out into the street with nowhere to go because the staff made a clerical error is completely unacceptable.I don't know what became of her, but given the characters who lurked around the street outside the backpackers I wouldn't be surprised if she was raped. The next morning I decided to check out early because I didn't like the vibe of the place and I was told that the staff would not refund my prepaid accommodation!Definitely a place to avoid.

It's been a while since the last visit, but I'm not surprised to see they are still working strong. The location is excellent, staff has always been super kind and helpful, and the rooms and facilities well worth to spend a night, a week or more in here!

No frills but clean friendly and really well run by John and Frank. This is how all backpackers should be... cool and chilled. No wonder it attracts so many Japanese and knowledgeable insiders...The best value haven for travellers in Cape Town.

I stayed in the Cat and Moose Backpackers in October 2013 for more than 2 weeks as I got everything ready for my bicycle tripHaving stayed in many hostels in Cape Town over the years (I'm an ex Overland Tour Leader), I have to say this is by far my favourite. As an independent traveler you will especially find it easy to meet people here, good cooking facilities, common areas etc.The rooms/bathrooms are basic enough but the atmosphere, location, staff(thanks John) is suitable. The price is also a lot less than the competition in the area and I found the hostel secure in terms of possesions. Thanks Cat & MooseDerek CullenDublin, Ireland

I have stayed here for two weeks. All of staffs I have met are Nice and friendly. If you have any troubles during your trip, you will may ask the staffs Even if you don't know how to solve those.Maybe, the staff that you ask give you any hints or resolutions. In South Africa whose high level in commodity price, we stay reasonable and comfortable.Even so The price of dormitory is 10USD per night, its very reasonable. There are a lot of attractions Around this guesthouse, so it's very easy to go anywhere in simple way.I have taken part in any tours from here.for instance, safari tour(only one day plan, a little expensive), abseiling at the table mountain(super exciting!).Supermarkets, fast foods, Waterfront, and any shops/restraunts/city sparks your trip more excited and feel comfortable.【in Sep 2015】

This is where I would stay again if coming to Capetown. It's right on the Long Street strip, but just up the road so a little quieter. The desk staff were knowledgeable and helpful. The room was okay, if not a bit cold in the winter with no heating. The courtyard is a nice oasis for hanging out and meeting people. I love the fact that some long term locals stay here, so you don't feel like you're just at a normal hotel. It was a great social atmosphere but still peaceful. Great find!

I stayed here for several days during my round trip through South Africa. Located in the busy Long Street, food and parties are always nearby and yet the rowdiness of the street won’t bother you inside the hostel. The first couple of nights I stayed in the women’s dorm, which was clean and moved, and the helpful staff sorted me out with some awesome day trips like abseiling from Table Mountain. The closed gate and the fact that you always have to go past the doorman gives a sense of safety as no one is coming in unnoticed.Later on I joined a group of friends and as we were with five people in a six bed dorm, the last bed was kept empty as to guarantee our privacy as we stayed up late into the night as our group had a lot to catch up on with travel stories and going out. The bathrooms weren’t the cleanest I’ve ever encountered, to say the least, as not all other guests respected the common areas as much as others. So if your room is located adjacent to one of the common areas and you want/need your sleep I recommend earplugs. And wear shoes or slippers at all times!

Nice quiet place to rest. The owner/staff was very friendly and helpful. When we mentioned we were going to Table Mountain, they took the initiative to check if the cable lifts on Table mountain were open that day and gave us good travel advice
