Pilgrims Rest Museum Info Centre

The friendly lady at information centre gave us general info and the map to help us locate the museums.

A quaint town steeped in history,which today is a live museum town. It's a pleasure to see how the town has been revived to its former glory. Certainly a must visit when in the area.

We had a stroll through Pilgrims Rest town. There you can find museums, small art shops, the well known Royal Hotel, Bank and Post Office. Other shops you find homemade jam, canned fruit or vegetables of all kinds. They believe to keep their history and culture save and all buildings are old but kept neat for their generation. They have the onder & Boo dorp" that cater for all their local residents as well as different flea market stalls for their clothing

Town affected by covid 19 lockdown. Wasnt very busy when we were there but definitely worth the outing. Interesting stories from shop owners such as at the Old Print House and the restaurant at the bottom

Nice area for outings ❤ fresh air on the mountains and with African craft that are being sold there.

Interested and informative, more people need to support this place otherwise it will get run down, its not as bad as everyone say. Go support them!

Pilgrim’s Rest is a lovely small town in the South Africa, in the north of Lydenburg, today protected as a provincial heritage site and today it’s possible to see how it was in 1970s when the last mine was closed. Interesting place to visit and where spend a full day.

Very interesting town, a well preserved historic town, post office, garage, trade shop, cemetery. Locals are kind but abit pushy while selling their trinkets

Good day.One I got down the windy road dodged a few potholes I got to Pilgrim's Rest is one of the few places I can say is virtually untouched. When I visited on 28 July 2018 they unfortunately had most of the buildings closed. They are currently working on opening all the buildings for viewing. Here you get a sense of how the people lived in the 1900’s and also see how they improvised to get tasks done. The homes and first garage is open so that you can view the cars of that time and also see the equipment they used in everyday life. This is an amazing place and a must see if you are in the area.
