Bidstone Cottages

Our visit was really really lekkerCome around the corner and there is a cold beer on tap" sign!And there really was beer and pizza and we bought some GinJules and Alan ( hope I got the names correct) dropped everything to serve us

Great beer, food, hosts and location.I can't recommend it enough!!As a bonus, I learned a lot about meat.Go and disappear into the mountains for for a few days, you won't regret it.

We had a fabulous stay in one of the cottages at Bidstone. A warm welcome and such friendly hospitality from Jules and Allan. The area is wonderful for hiking and running, with many mountains to climb. And when you are finished, there is a sparkling pool built in the rocks and fed by a mountain spring. It's also an ideal base to explore the Wartrail, New England and Rhodes districts, and the mountain passes if you have a 4x4 and that is your thing. The cottage itself was perfectly equipped, and the communal kitchen is excellent. We will be back!

Our family stayed here over Xmas NYE. Babies, kids and all had a lovely time. The perfect place for a family holiday, fire places to gather around in the evenings, walks during the day, lawns to play on, farm animals doing their thing. The old sandstone farm houses take you back in time along with the beautiful landscapes, old mountain passes and San bushmen rock painting in caves along the rivers. We made pizzas in the pizza oven, which was a highlight along with swimming in the beautiful rock pool. Allen and his wife who own and run Bidstone farm are wonderful hosts and Allen’s Bidstone ale was the cherry on top of a great holiday. We will definitely be back.

Thank you so much Alan for an incredible slackpacking experience with amazing scenery, great hosting, delicious food and seamless logistics! Each night was different and our last night at Bidstone just blew us away. You and Jules have put your hearts and souls into this and it shows!

Allan was our guide on the Wartrail, not only a good guide but a great story teller! He definately saved the best for last, together with Jules they are excellent hosts, who welcomed us with their tasty home brew. We were treated to delicious pizza for dinner with an incredible moon rising. The views are stunning and our breakfast was cooked and served outside. A really great stay with attentive hosts, I look forward to a return visit.

Deon & Elbie HoniballWe did the Wartrail from 12-14 May 2021. Allan Isted was our guide. We started at Glengyle, then to Balloch, followed by Glengarrith and ending at Bidstone cottages. The scenery was breathtaking with autumn colours, rivers and awesome vistas high up in the mountains. Allan was a great guide with a lot of knowledge and patience. Together with his wife Jules they spoiled us with delicious pizzas and breakfasts. We enjoyed Ed and all the farm animals. The accommodation was cosy with a lot of character. All the other hosts on all the other farms were great. An unforgetable experience.

Such a beautiful part of the world!! Mountain views, rivers, clean streams - definitely worth a visit. Bidstone Cottage was lovely and Allan is a very interesting and entertaining host! Worth the drive - pack some snacks for a riverside picnic.

Breathtakingly Beautiful views. Accommodation with old-world charm, accompanied with modern comforts. An unforgettable host that is a Master with his divine Pizzas. A place that stays in your heart. I Highly recommend Bidstone. Can't wait to go again.

This is a unique experience - you really won't find this kind of thing anywhere else in the world. Pizza, beer, gin are just a start. From the moment you arrive you are treated as friends. Allan and Jules are excellent hosts. We stayed at Bidstone for only 2 out our 5 nights in the area but Allan actually looked after our group of intrepid mountain runners for the duration of our stay - nothing is too much for him! Thanks Allan and Jules - we will be back. I can't recommend this spot more, for a time away from the city. Whatever your interests, you will be sure to be enthralled and entertained!
