Gaikou Lodge

Only stayed one night but totally loved the place. The grounds are peaceful and mountain backdrop is stunning. The units are spotless and modern. Breakfast was nice. Great value for money. Highly recommend staying here.

One of the most amazing places I have stayed at! Went for work... But felt like a vacation and a time to wind down... Wonderful place to feel in touch with nature and break away from the city life. Staff were also awesome and friendly.... The mountains are more beautiful every day!

What a big disappointment for the price we paid! For R5600 for 2 nights one expects great service, a great location and also rooms that fit the setting.Our experience was however that little to no maintenance is done at this Lodge. When you read other recent guest reviews they had similar complaints that have not been addressed yet. I am surprised about the high rstings though.First as we walked into Protea 1 and 2 we were met with an ice-cold place. The floor is concrete and tiles and it was a mere 14 degrees. We saw that there is a panel heater on the wall, but unfortunately, it is broken. The gasheater would not start, which was replaced after we complained, but on the second night the gas ran out literally 30min after we arrived back after a day out. The TV remote was nowhere to be seen, the shower drains were so blocked that we ended up taking a bath wasting liters of water as the baths are huge. When we reported this to the staff at breakfast the first morning we were told they know about the shower drain problem, and have reported this up there". One wonders who is the "up there" person who has not attended to this in months!My Mom is 80 years old and feels cold quickly. We therefore put the aircon in heat to try and get her room warmer. Not even 30degrees could get the riom to an acceptable heat.The blinds are not opening properly and the one curtain did not hang properly as the hooks were out.The first morning we were asked if someone should come and clean the place. Again

Spent 3 delightful days in this lush, green, manicured oasis at the foot of the mountains.... Easy access to incredible bike trails, great breakfasts, wonderfully spacious and comfortable accommodation...... The kids had an absolute blast and we got an afternoon nap!!! Seeing an entire troop of baboons wander by was an added benefit. The staff were kind, courteous and extremely helpful. We have found our go to" accommodation in Swellendam. Thanks for a wonderful rest."

I had a lovely stay for one night during the week. The view of the mountain is beautiful (have to walk out into the grass to see from room 5) and the area is so peaceful. The mini fridges have some drinks you can purchase. The linen was luxurious. There were activities such as hiking and biking available although I didn't have time to try myself. I'd love to go back when I'm on holiday.

I loved staying at Gaikou Lodge. The rooms were clean and neat, the staff was friendly and happy to assist in any way. I love the rolling lawns and sitting on the stoep, watching the clouds roll over the mountains. We were visited by some curious baboons and guinea fowl. The lodge found the perfect balance between luxury and unspoilt appreciation of nature. Will definitely visit again

Peaceful location at the foot of the mountains. Huge rooms, big breakfast and friendly staff. Would recommend and would definitely look to stay again if in the area. Great value for money.

Set against the most majestic backdrop of mountains and beautiful trees, is the picturesque Gaikou lodge. Waking up from a restful sleep every morning to the sounds of birds happily going about their morning routine, and the river babbling away, truly puts you in the best mood. Thank you Simone, Henrietta and all the wonderful staff at Gaikou lodge for making our stay incredibly memorable.

Friendly staff, amazing view, stunning rooms, good breakfast. Only negative - didn't like the two single bed set up, with small single bed duvets; when we selected a extra large double bed option when booked. Other than than that a great place to stay.

Wow !!Very neat and it is absolute worth the visit .Breakfast was 5 star.Bath tub Absolute pleasure .View and gardens in prestige condition.Room is gigantic !!Love , Love , Love (Oo)
