The views were breathtaking and we were surrounded by the sound of nature. The historical setting was very interesting, and the Outpost Restaurant nearby was great!

The Views is absolutely stunning. This place in Piketberg is on top of the hill and you look over the whole of Piketberg. My room was spaces and has a big bath room. I saw a nice honeymoon room for a newly wed couple. If you want to go to a place just to relax with your family or couples weekend away, this is the place for it.It has a pool and braai area as well.I enjoyed my stay.

My wife and I travel extensively and both of us are foodies and I lead in to that because I want to give an honest perspective. The building is beautifully modern a good mix of new and old country living. The winter sunset and sunrise was phenomenal and this was also accented by good furniture choices. However it was the little things I was irritated by. The kitchen area is used to cook breakfast for guests and it is also used by the family who lives onsite. A weekend getaway for me, is a chance to reboot and upon entering we were greeted by a very warm host who even offered to carry our bags. However, we were also greeted by the non neutral smell of cabbage food cooking and it permeated through the entire house. We walked through what I believed to be the guest lounge area. We were led upstairs to the bedroom which was spacious and clean with beautifully crisp bedding and then we were hit by the rules. No smoking was the first rule, of course we understood this and support it. I mean really, this is the international standard. The second rule was no drinking allowed in the rooms and I found this to be odd. A rule that determines how I may spend my time on my weekend breakaway, which I paid for? Very odd! I didn't say much and expected to have my coffee while out and about until I looked around the room as I was unpacking to find cups, kettle and instant coffee on a tray. I realized it meant you were not allowed to drink alcohol in the rooms. Later in the evening I went to retrieve my phone from the car and saw the owner and asked him about the rule and he regaled me with tales of previous bad guests and how the rule protected his white bedding.Lets be honest every bed and breakfast owner knows that the rate must include a margin for insurance for mishaps on bedding and carpets and coffee and tea stains much worse than two fingers of whisky. I think he was disingenuous. Other irritations was, they laid out clean towels but no complimentary soaps. When we left for supper on the Friday we had to trapes through the families supper time which felt awkward coming back from dinner a man was laying on the couch under a blanket, again awkward. The next night the owners had friends over to watch the rugby and I realized that the lounge area was not for guest use! Breakfast was basic but I would have loved to have a choice between scrambled or fried and white or brown toast. In closing, it has always been my experience that a guest house should provide every consideration to the guest. This equites to great service. My experience was disjointed because there were so many inconsistencies with the standard even at the low end, that I have become accustomed to. As we packed the car at 08:30 the next morning to head home a church service was being listened to on the radio and apart from finding this strange for a guest house, I also instantly understood the no drinking rule.I wished the guest house was upfront about how it operates and is set up because I would have chosen differently. I feel like I was cheated out of a break away from my usual daily considerations. If I leave my house to stay somewhere else the standard should be the same or better. I am a considerate and well behaved, read and travelled man and this experience did not meet my standard. I read some people said it felt like home and perhaps that was the problem, it felt like someone's home and I was trying to get away from home.

A must see for yourself. Nice view over Piketberg, swimming pool for the kids to enjoy themselves while mom and dad prepares the food. Also lovely for groups of at least 10 to 12 people
