Great Fish Point Lighthouse

This was a memorable experience. I had never seen a light house. This one is kept in proper condition. Security is friendly and helpful. It's a bit of a distance from the main road but it worth a visit.

Long road to have a nice view for less than an hour.It was a long drive to the light house the road was not in a good condition anymore. The light house was closed due to covid and there where some construction.It is open now.The view are great but if you aren't staying over it's not worth the drive.Think the to stay there at least 2 days will be really nice

This is a beautiful, wellkept lighthouse. The area around it is clean, and facilities are clean too. The cottages are beautiful and very comfortable, with a great sea view. The guided tour by the lighthouse keeper and assistant lighthouse keeper is good too.

A great lookout point over the Indian ocean. The lighthouse is a historic landmark and well kept.The gravel road to drive to the place my be a bit difficult for a small car.

My 2 daughters and I sat and relaxed on the shade of the lighthouse with a beautiful view of the sea.

The Great Fish Point lighthouse near Port Alfred in the Eastern Cape is one of South Africa’s smallest lighthouses – but it casts a beacon light that can shine for up to 32 nautical miles out to sea. It is also one of four South African lighthouses to offer visitor accommodation.If you should ever make your way to the mouth of the Great Fish River in the Eastern Cape and hear about ‘the short, red-headed fellow in the tuxedo’, don’t assume the locals have gone mad.They’re probably talking about the Great Fish Point lighthouse, which, at a height of only 9m, is one of South Africa’s most diminutive working lighthouses. It has a cheerfully bright red dome and is painted in distinctive black-and-white stripes – hence mention of a tuxedo.The lighthouse is, however, built on a hillock 76m above sea level and thus has an excellent view over the Indian Ocean. It is one of only four lighthouses in South Africa to offer on-site accommodation, in the form of two cottages than can sleep a total of 12 people.A campsite is also in the process of being established. (The other lighthouses in South Africa where you can stay are at Danger Point in Gansbaai, Cape St Blaize in Mossel Bay and Cape Columbine on the West Coast.)Nearby is the seaside holiday town of Port Alfred, with its string of forever-stretching world-class beaches, marina, flight school and golf course. The popular resort location is packed during vacation time.The Great Fish Point lighthouse staff has traditionally been very tourist-friendly since the lighthouse's construction in 1898. The light-keepers and their families have always been a part of the Port Alfred community, sending their children to local schools and entertaining all visitors at the lighthouse on weekends.Very friendly staff. clean neat restrooms and also accommodation available. a must visit!!

A must visit if you're in the area. Breathtaking views.

We came all the way from Kenton, it was such a long drive to get to the lighthouse but it was a great experience and would do it again if the kids request it. The view is gorgeous, there is more to this place than the lighthouse, the lighthouse its self is perfect and very neat and clean. I Highly recommend.
