Hippo Boutique Hotel

When we got there, the receptionist asked me to show him my phone so he can see if I'm supposed to be at this hotel which is a very weird question to ask. I know I'm supposed to be there and I can read a hotels name, I am not illiterate ... He then asks my bank card and proof of payment to confirm if everything is in order... When he searches me on the system I wasn't even allocated a room yet ... He then shows us a room and it looks as if its meant for storage ... We then ask to see a different room and it was abit better which I can't understand why you wouldn't just show us your nice room to begin with ... I'm not very happy with the way the receptionist welcomed us and questioned us in such a manner that made it seem like we didn't belong there.

This hotel which is supposed to be 4 star was not even close to 1 star. Upon arrival we were able to access the hotel from the street with no access card. The receptionist did not care and kept asking if the gate was open to which I said yes multiple times as that was how we got in. The food voucher for mugg and bean where my parter got food poisoning and spent the whole evening being sick. Having the do not disturb sign on the door, I was disturbed by a cleaner who was not apologetic in any way. The last day we asked for a wake up call at 10. It did not come at 10 it was late. Lastly on the last day someone came into the room at 9:30am to clean again not apologetic just a, oh

Stayed here for 3 days, really nice and big rooms with a nice kitchenette and fridge. Staff were very friendly.....Unfortunately, I later had an issues with my invoice, which they could not fix because of the ancient system they are using, and thus I could not claim my full amount at work, so the Good rating is now Bad.Also the bar downstars is quite noisy, keep that in mind.

Absolutely beautiful and hip boutique in the middle of hustling kloof street.Situated perfectly from a wide range of restaurants, cafes and pubs where you can peruse, you will never get bored.Safe enough to walk around the area - even at night.Hotel service was amazing! Receptionist very friendly and helpful. Bedding very high quality.I suggest a room at the back as can get quite noisy outside.

Stayed here multiple times and it’s my go to hotel in Cape Town. Huge rooms, really comfortable beds and a great location. Highly recommend

The staff were super helpful and friendly. The room very well kitted out and spotless. The shower is amazing and I like the thoughtful touch of a make up mirror.

We had a great stay at The Hippo, with a wonderful and helpful staff, and a great location.

Not sure how this place has a score above 4 stars. It's average looking and feeling. The rooms are dated. But mostly, the walls are so thin I can hear the other room's guests conversations, often til 2am in the morning.The doors all slam shut and shake the walls. It's not a great place to get a good sleep.
