Dirk's Meat Market

Having moved to Durban recently, we thought we found the best spot for our biltong and meat supplies. That didn’t last long. In December we bought meat for a braai only to be given the ugliest slices of meat with unbelievably huge bones.And while we were impressed at how good the biltong is, just this week we were given rotten biltong. Despite the friendly staff at the tills, the gents behind the counters were clearly not happy to serve us quality meat products. Goodbye Dirks.

With it being overcast and a little cold today. What better reason to braai. I had an early appointment in Berea and thought that the best place to buy some delicious watering spec wors was not far. So done with my appointment by 10h30 and within a few turns I was at Davenport Centre, now I have not been here for a while and the are some noticeable changes. Went in and located my favorite Butcher in this area. Dirk's Meat Market located within the Centre opposite Checkers Supermarket. It was about 10h30 and the store was quite busy. It shows how popular it is. I had a walk around the store, which was well packed with fresh and processed meat products at at reasonable prices as well. Not finding my favorite wors on the shelves, I had a chat to one of the friendly butchers who was very knowledgeable and gladly explained the difference in all their wors, unfortunately they were out of stock on the spec wors, so I opted for the vortrekker, which was OK. Grab some fresh Pre marinaded rump steak, with a quick stock at checkers for freshly baked rolls and mushrooms. I was on my way home, fire lite and braai was ready for my rustic lunch by 12h30.Dirk's is well run family butchery. With friendly knowledge and helpful staff. Their store is always well packed and reasonably priced. Good quality fresh meat. And one of the best wors I'm Durban. Give them a try when you next in the area. Recommend.

Phoned several times...no answer.Called a different butchery, they answered immediately, they were more expensive, but at least they offered good customer care.

Meat is fresh and there is a variety of pieces to choose including tasty Biltong

It's clean ,well set up butchery .very nice portions for people who live by themselves and bigger portions also available.

Horrible customer service! I wanted to return an item I bought cash, whilst at the till as I realized it's a duplicate purchase. The cashier started shouting that now I'm inconveniencing her as she needs to call the manager to correct this and it's not the first time I change my mind. Correct, I've made a duplicate purchase once before, SO THATS TWO INSTANCES IN 3 YEARS!! I was so traumatized that I left with the product I did not need and paid for something I did not want. Ultimately the customer does not come first here, proceed with caution.

Far too busy, didnt enjoy, made hubby do the shopping. The one worker offered to help my hubby and was helpful and friendly. First time there and I take being busy as a good sign.

Always a pleasure to shop at Dirks where the staff get to know you and help make your shop a dream. This is always my first choice when it comes to ordering or instore purchasing of meat for my family.
