Nooitgedacht Block C.

Good res, clean and mostly safe. Had one unfortunate instance where an intruder was noted. He claimed to have accidentally walked into the wrong apartment, but upon further questioning it was clear he didn't belong and rushed off. Matter was reported to security who didn't quite seem to care.

The amount of booze we wasted here is actually insane. +creds for nice parties

They took two months to return my deposit. I had to constantly remind them and finally when I received my deposit, it was not the full amount. They gave me no reason why they took from my deposit. I just gave up and didn't want to argue with them after being ignored for almost two months. Be warned privately paying students.

I stayed at Nooitgedacht C in my first year –I met lovely people, my flat was alright and the shuttle was convenient; but I would not recommend staying there.Throughout the year, we did not have a single fire drill even after the fire at HTB. When we brought it up, on several occasions, we were told that it would be discussed in a meeting and nothing ever happened.Quiet times were not enforced, despite it being in our contract, and it took weeks of complaining until something was done.Management and appointed leaders were unhelpful and had a bad attitude.I was looking forward to staying at Nooitgedacht C at the beginning of the year, but by the end of it I couldn't wait to get out.

1 star seems a bit too much ! Do not recommend this accommodation to anyone, not even my worse enemy. Poor management who don’t do their work properly. I was bullied and shouted at by a white man (won’t say any names) who said that my parents didn’t pay the last payment and that’s he’s going to kick me out and that I should leave (because I’m black and don’t know my rights). The office had not recorded the correct email address for my mother’s email and made it seem like they were being avoided mean while they had been sending the email to the wrong person. They harassed me and threatened to kick me out of the building and did this outside to embarrass me. I called my mother and told her what had happened and they denied saying everything and that it was a joke. The white man portrayed signs of racism, by not letting me speak and acting superior and telling me I can’t pay rent and that I should leave. Let’s not even speak out the living conditions and safety and cold water . It’s not worth your money ! That’s all that I can say.

100% DO NOT RECOMMEND. Giving this place one star is an over-exaggeration of how good it is. I was looking forward to staying in Nooitgedacht but not even halfway through the year I was begging for my refund and tried to get someone to take over my lease.The place is over advertised and overpriced for what you actually receive. I paid about 7000 pm and had to share with 5 other people and still had to pay for electricity and laundry. The laundry never even worked and it was such a hassle to be able to do my laundry.Safety is a big issue, it's located in a dodgy area and there were incidents where people were in danger. There are street parties outside the building that made me feel unsafe when coming back at night alone. When the power is out, the fingerprints don't work and anyone has access to the building.The sanitation is poor and there were problems my friends had with cockroaches and it wasn't solved. Which reflects how bad the management and leadership is. The admin also has a poor attitude and no interest in making anyone feel at home or heard. I had many noise complaints even after silent hours that were never taken seriously.I definitely regret giving my money to this place and wish I never stayed here. I do not recommend anyone to stay here. You can get much better value for money elsewhere.

Only 1 star because I can't give 0! Don't waste your money on this place, it is way over priced and over advertised! This place should not be accredited by Stellenbosch University and NSFAS as it is not suitable for students at all and has a negative effect on the morale and mental health of students.Most of the time there's no hot water.Uncapped WiFi" doesn't work.The lift is broken most of the time - not disability friendly.Loud music and shouting most nights until past 2am - quiet time rules are not reinforced at all.Terrible hygiene - generally not a clean place and showers and basin drains are clogged often.No biometric security when there is loadshedding and security personel are non functional (residents have complained about intruders violently trying to open their windows and doors).Management is unhelpful and takes extremely long to respond to complaints and enquiries if they respond at all.The location is also unsafe and a long walk to campus.Today we had compulsory room inspection where you had to be present inside your room - they made us wait 3 hours only to let us know they are moving it to tomorrow."

Nooitgedacht Block C was a very interesting place to stay. It was lovely to be among so many students as a first year but I had so many problems with the place itself.The management team is almost non existence and head students are required to deal with the issues of the building. These issues are never actually dealt with.I stayed in a room very close to the quad and whenever my flatmates and I complained about the noise, nothing was done about that.Students are also required to pay every time they do washing although the machines barely work.It also takes a really long time for the maintenance people to come -- after a couple of emails.I would honestly not recommend staying at Nooigedatch Block C.In terms of safety, a friend of mine got mugged right outside the gate of the residence but nothing was done about that.In short, Block C is an inconvenience place to stay. Issues are never dealt with and the lack of competence from the management team is quite frustrating.
