Somabula Nature Reserve

What a wonderful weekend. This was our second time camping at Somabula. We camped at Egret campsite, and it was amazing. Saw all the plains animals and enjoyed the bird life, peace and quitness.Will be back again.Ina & Gerhard

A lovely place for hiking. Well maintained, lots of animals to be seen, beautiful lapas can be hired for a picnic or braai after the hike!

Had a lovely weekend stay at Somabula. Close to Jhb and Pta, and very reasonably priced too. Our family enjoyed our comfy thatched chalet. Lots of bird species to spot. We will be back!

My friend and I had the most amazing experience, as we turned a small curve on our trail, we came face to face with a giraffe. We were literally within touching distance of each other.We were so unprepared for the encounter, we couldn't take pictures even though I had my phone in my hand. We just stood there, taking in the massiveness of this giraffe and it also just stared at us.That was truly amazing.

Nice hike, not very hard with beautiful vistas and quite a few animals to see like Blesbok, Giraffe, Blou Wildebeest, Eland, Zebra, Impala and more. We didn't book any lapas but it's definitely worth your while to book one and have a picnic or a braai there. They all looked very well situated and well maintained.Not a lot of shade so take a hat.

Fantastic place to stay. Sonya, Sias and the team run everything very smoothly. Camping with Private ablutions are great. Lots of Game and amazing birds. 4x4 trials and lots of walking trials. Thanks Team

Perfect place to escape the busy city life and stay in the lap of mother nature for a few days.We stayed in the self-catering 'Pumba' -chalet closest to the dam. The surroundings are absolutely beautiful and soothing as heaven.Somabula is such a peaceful and quiet property with lots of area for a scenic walk or longer hike with their well marked hiking trails.We arrived on Friday settling into the chalet, watching the sunset and ended the day unwinding and watching the sunset having a braai at our chalet.We spotted 4 giraffe on our Saturday morning walk, some ostrich, buck and beautiful birds on the Saturday morning. Saturday afternoon we had a visit by the property's horses on their way to have a drink and snack at the dam.The chalets are well equipped and bedding is crisp clean.On Sunday morning we had our usual hiking group join us on a lovely hike where we spotted some more giraffe, zebras, ostriches, kudus before heading back to Johannesburg rejuvenated and ready to take on the week.

Camping is basic but adequate it is a bit on the expensive side but it is close to Pretoria. The game viewing is rather domesticated but it is great fun that you can go game viewing on foot. Will vist again especially for the kids.

It's not a bad hike. Its a bit boring to be honest and keeping a look out for tics is a must. Amazing wildlife did make up for it though
