Ngoye Forest Reserve

A must for anyone with a 4x4

Beautiful place with stunning views, but very run down.. Bring everything you need with you when going.

It's a good Forest and have a bird called Green Barbet only found there in South Africa

Beautiful environment to walk in but not managed well at all. Paths are not marked and unless you know the place it will be difficult to navigate your way arround.

Don’t follow gps,Apple Maps ,google maps as they will get you lost. From the T junction from Mtunzini to R102 turn left then right on tar road to the reserve. There is no signs saying you have entered the park. There is no signs telling you where the parks board office is. We found it by chance to find office locked and staff doing washing. We asked can we go into the forest and she told us not advisable as roads are bad but we could go if we wanted to but no cell phone signal , no directions and roads badly over grown. Park full of cows and no wildlife. We went into the forest after driving the grass lands. Could hear birds but very hard to see. Only went into the forest about 500 m as roads were to bad don’t go by yourself if you do go as you will get stuck. 4x4 low just to drive the 500 m.Totally run down and managed by incompetent staff.Don’t recommend going here.

Hidden gem! But routes and points of interest could be marked or mapped properly. Take enough food and drink.

Outrageous and absolutely beautiful and breath taking.

Absolutely beautiful, but facilities totally vandalized , beyond use. Neighboring communities seem to have taken down fences. We did not feel safe. Very , very sad as the forest is home to the endemic Red Squirrel

I spend virtually every weekend if it's not raining up there stomping through the forests and there is just no other place like it here on the north coast. 9 out of 10 times I do not meet another soul. There are beautiful rock faces and huge trees to climb, untouched indigenous forest with lots of wildlife, flowers and the most unusual trees - and nothing but nature's sounds. Absolute bliss for me.
