Vergenoeg Nature Reserve & Hiking Trail
We had a good hike. Followed the orange trail. Was a bit confused as climbing up. Most of the time both orange and red markers are put up together. But for that portion was only red making it confusing. Overall great place to climb a mountain!

Beautiful hike, quick elevation gains with a fair amount of tree cover all the way to the ridge line. Cape Vulture sightings are almost guaranteed with what seems to be a large nest in the crag.

Great little hiking trail, close to JHB.We've done both the 5km & 10km routes. Both routes are quite demanding. The 5km is suitable for someone of medium fitness while the 10 km touted is far more taxing.Lots of steep uphill and can very quite loose and technical on the way down, especially if you are fatigued. The views are all worth it though.Beautiful scenery with a view over Hartbeespoort dam. They are pet friendly, but o would advise against taking pets that are not fit.

One exciting trail, clean and clearly marked. There's a coffee shop onsite as well, bathrooms redone, there's a braai & picnic area which all the hikers/visitors are welcome to use for free and WOW it is still affordable at R80.00PP... they close the gates at 15h30 in the afternoon but they were friendly to let my group relax a bit after the trail until around 16h20 when we left by ourselves.

Nice hiking trails with varying lengths and difficult levels. The view from the top of the mountain is worth the effort. Very cool Cape Vulture breeding site. We saw a lot of vultures flying around the area.

This trail is a fan favourite and I absolutely understand why. This trail is really in a league of it's own and overdelivers on spectacular views and scenery. We did the 5km which is moderate to difficult and involves some scrambling and rock climbing. The 11km is notorious for being one of the most challenging hikes in our area and is perfect for those who would like to test their metal. The 5km trail is shady and takes you through forests decorated with the most intricate and interesting mushrooms, moss and fungi. The climb up with the magaliesberg slopes is quite daunting but once you summit you are rewarded with the most beautiful views of Magaliesberg mountains and Harties dam. The vultures circling above make this a very rewarding hike. The trail is clean, clear and very well marked. Please note that some of the climb is quite treacherous and slippery...best to pack in your hiking poles for this one and plan this one for a dry day. This venue is on private property and felt very safe.R50 per person is a bargain for what I deem to be one of the best hiking venues around Gauteng. No booking required, once you arrive you can phone the number on the gate (Dayton) to let you in.I can't wait to go back in the next few weeks to do the 11km. This is really a must do hike...go see for yourself!
