After having a somewhat average experince with Britz, one of the biggest 4x4 rental agencies in South Africa my partner and I were really looking for something more during our second road trip through South Africa. Thankfully we found Bushtrackers. Not only was the car in great condition and better laid out than others we have rented, the equipment was also in a much better condition. the overall customer service experince through Helen and the bushtrackers team was very personalized and comfortable. We had a minor issue with our fridge which ultimately turned out to be nothing more than a lose wire and the service team thankfully came out to meet us midway through our trip at a convenient location to both parties after patiently troubleshooting as much as we could. We highly recommend the BT team and I will have them as default 4x4 rental service from here on out.

My boyfriend and I had a Hilux with a roof tent for 7 weeks. Even before our trip Heather gave us a lot of tips and always answered really quick.When we got to Africa, they delivered the car perfectly on time to us in Cape Town (where they took their time and explained everything to us - from equipment to paperwork and how to's) and we gave it back in Johannesburg.In between we drove all the way through Namibia and Botswana and everything went well. As they provided us with the relevant documents, border crossings were really easy. And when we had a problem with the car (which was mostly broken tires) they answered and helped us right away.Another big plus was the price which was way lower than all the other rental companies we contacted.So we can definitely recommend Bushtrackers!

Renting a car from this company was an awesome experience. We rented a fully equipped Toyota Hilux with a rooftop tent for two people. The car had everything we needed for a self drive safari trip to Kruger, from cooking gear to clean bedding and towels. Communication with Bushtrackers was always super fast and friendly, special thanks to Heather for our extra requests like keeping our baggage, border crossing docs etc. Also the pick-up with introduction and drop-off where smooth and absolutely painless. I would highly recommend Bushtrackers for self-drive safari car rental and would always go back to them in case we'd ever like to repeat this special experience.

We rented a Hilux double cab for our trip from Johannesburg through Botswana and Namibia back to JNB. We have done 7600 km, mostly on gravel roads and through parks and we can only recommend the Bushtrackers. Car was excellent, our average consumption was 10.4 liters with 2.4 l TDI engine considering that we drove mostly on gravel with many sandy and rocky stretches including Central Kalahari, Moremi, Chobe, Khowarib schlucht, Palmwag concession and Kgalagadi. Heather was great help with our itinerary and came up with many recommendation for our trip. We would definitely do another trip with Bushtrackers.

We did a 20 day camping trip/self drive safari to Botswana. Oct/Nov 2018. We started in Johannesburg. We rented a 2018 Toyota Hylux diesel Pick up/safari vehicle from Bushtrackers. The vehicle was amazing, all top notch name brand gear. A 2nd, totally necessary fuel tank. We drove long distances with no chance for fuel. The kitchen and storage layout in the bed of the truck were very well thought out. The tent and the refrigerator worked great in some extreme conditions. Some of the 4x4 roads were very tight with thorn bushes. We could not help but hit some, making some scratches. There was no extra charge. All in all they were fair and good to deal with. Their price was the best I could find. I would recommend them

We rented a 4x4 Hilux double cab with rooftop tent. When we wanted to pick up our 4x4 in October the invoice was presented for signing we had to pay R300 more. Okay that is not much but in my eyes it is not a nice behavior. Nobody told us before about the price change. It was just presented to us without informing. We rented vehicles in southern africa for about 25 times but we never got a hidden price increase like that.We also agreed to get two full gas bottles, but one was almost empty. It lasts only two days. When we took over the car I asked Are the gas bottles full?" This was confirmed. Only after three weeks we could exchange the empty gas bottle in Maun. The gas bottles were awkwardly attached which causes problems whole holiday. I ask myself sometimes the customer always has to pay for loss or damage

Bushtrackers provides excellent new vehicles for your adventure in Africa. I recommend them and I will always use their vehicles whenever there is availability.You're advised to always book in time

Overall a great experience with Bushtrackers during our 3 week Botswana trip in March & April 2022. Heather responds incredibly fast and is really helpful. Richard and Charlie were very helpful during collection of the vehicle and explained all the features of the car and camping gear very well.The car was a brand new 2021 Toyota Hilux model and the camping gear was complete and the car came with 2 spare tires and sand ladders. On request we also got jerry cans for our long stay without refueling options. A point of improvement would be to have more easy access storage space/drawers for items or food in the back.Although stated on the website, the vehicle did not come with a front bumper frame. Also the vehicle did not have a rear tow point, which is odd if you end up in a situation when you get stuck in sand/mud and the rescue vehicle is behind you... And I doubt (but I'm by no means a car-expert) if it had the increased suspension height, as I noted other Hilux models with much higher ground clearance compared to ours. In quite some situations (sand and puddles) a higher clearance would be much better.Unfortunately we had some damage to the car but this was handled very well and transparent by Bushtrackers. Regular 'bush scratches' due to the many (thorn) bushes were not charged, which was great as these cannot be avoided.Overall a good experience and I would definitely recommend hiring from Bushtrackers.

I cannot say a bad word about this company. The vehicle (which we collect from Maun in Botswana) was new, in great condition and was equipped perfectly - not too much equipment to unload and load, but just enough to make life very comfortable. Heather, in South Africa was super efficient and the staff in Maun (Sylvester, Sammy and Kay) attended to the administration and hand-over in a very caring and happy way - all minor issues attended to straight away. I have absolutely no hesitation in recommending Bushtrackers and we will certainly use them again in the future.
