I lived in Ponte 1990/91, 46th floor.THE BUILDING to live in those days and short walk the scene in Yeoville and Hillbrow.Beautiful view, but needs getting used to the height as the Building is moving in the Wind. :)

The apartments are beautiful inside how ever this place is not safe.I was mugged inside the building as I entered the entrance. There are always men standing around the entrance area drinking alcohol and playing loud music all night long. I moved out of this building because of that. Also we only had one elevator working for almost a year which made living there hell. Its a shame for such a beautiful building to be clouded by crime and unruly people.

The history behind this architectural gem can be found out through a booked tour with the Dwala Nje organisation.I learnt more about this building and the three areas of Yeoville, Berea and Hillbrow than any textbook or history class ever taught me. You won't regret it.The tour starts out at 5101, a part of the Ponte building that was once an apartment but is now a bar and event space for hire. Top brands have used this space, and rightly so, for its private enough to host a high-profile function and pretty too, in that it has breathtaking views that showcase the Hillbrow Tower in the distance with the rest of Johannesburg at her feet. The building today, after many years of a push-pull-mine-yours meander of ownership has apartments available for rental only.I'm basing my 5 star review on the history behind the building and how it still contends with the forces and succeeds, as well as the tour I was on where I learnt such a lot. This was such a momentous occasion to be inside this building as I grew up in and around the area of Yeoville with Ponte as my backdrop. The building has wheelchair accessible lifts but I'm not too sure if there are generators in place should Johannesburg be struck with one of Eskom's famous load-shedding moments so if there were no electricity here it may pose a problem for someone with a physical disability to get in and out, but other than that it really is a place of awe and magnificence.

Lovely building with lovely views once ure on the top floor. Offers great views of Joburg CBD. Considered to be the highest building in Africa. Offers tours of Hillbrow and Yeoville. Also tours inside the Ponte City for a little amount of money with the aim is of challenging perceptions

The tour of the Ponte building was fantastic. It offers some of the best views of Joburg and the history of this iconic building is interesting to hear. Offers some great photo opps and a is fun trip for anyone interested in getting to know a different side of Joburg. The tour was well orchestrated and our tour guide - Gilbert - was great. Although the surrounding area can seem intimidating to some I didn't feel unsafe once.

The building is really in a shoddy state and has seen better days! I went on a tour and we abseiled down the middle. It was an amazing experience! The building is solid and looks like it has a good couple of years left in it, but it needs some serious maintenance and attention. The area feels incredibly dangerous and the inhabitants all look incredibly dodgy and potentially dangerous. I would seriously caution any tourists from visiting the area or the building without an experienced tour guide. The building is still a real piece of Johannesburg history and is a must visit.
