Always special with family. Plenty of food and beverage stalls at Inchanga station. Horse rides, Music, arts and craft stalls, coffee bar and even beers and ciders can be found there. We enjoyed a 30 min. train trip from Inchanga Station to Bothashill Station. Here the train stops for about 15 min to stretch legs before heading back to Inchanga Station. The kids really enjoyed this outing while the parents just relaxed. highly recommended.

Kids loved the experience but the adults loved it more. Was like being transported back in time. My 7yr old can't wait to go again. Totally worth it

I've always wanted to go but never actually followed through. I am passionated about trains in general, esp Steam Locomotives and my partner offered to take me for the day as an early birthday present. It was the best birthday present I have ever received. The day was just filled with excitement for both of us. We ended the day with a 1hr 15min train ride on a class 12D steam locomotive. The team behind the scenes have done an incredible job at restoring the locomotive and cars. Plus a lovely museum in the old station masters house. The rail yard had so much old rolling stock and we walk around for hours just looking into this incredible history. It was so nice to meet people who share my passion. Can't wait to go again.

My family had a great time in the Umgeni Steam Train.Very professionally run, albeit by volunteers. An old-timey experience with a ticket booth, conductor, snacks car.The market at Inchanga has some nice stalls selling crafts, toys and food. The station manager's house museum is worth a look at also.

Finally we did it! We have traveled on the Umgeni Steam Railway!!! And it was worth it...The main station was clean, staff were polite and friendly and delicious food and good music... Well done guys. The only one flaw was the stop at Botha's Hill was messy, with lots of garbage lying all around.

The Umgeni Steam Railway is a non-profit organisation dedicated to the preservation of railway heritage in South Africa.Be pulled by a 1912 locomotive while seated in a carriage built in 1908 accompanied by coaches from the 1930's up some of the steepest railway gradients in South Africa (1:20 -1:50) through one of the oldest running tunnels, Drummond Tunnel (1880) to overlook the Valley of a 1000 Hills with itscaptivating landscape stretching as far back into history as steam can carry you. A must do for family, friends and work outings. The Colonial station of Inchanga has a buzzing Inchanga Craft Market where rail travellers can buy handmade crafts and home-made food. A wander around the very interesting museum is a must do.Please note the train is currently not running but is looking like it will be back in action soon.

For people who haven't experienced a train ride, this is a must. It's short, but scenery and actual steam train noise is exactly like the Western Movies. Nice photo shoot with your fones. Flea Market. Food Stalls. Very nice experience
