great day-trip to Sani Pass and Lesotho! You really don’t want to drive the last part of the pass yourself. Better enjoy the views in the back. Peter was a great guide. Overall a very cool experience and absolutely worth to go up there. Travelled over 60 countries and one of my highlights so far when it comes to daytrips.

Emile guided us on an amazing birding tour up to Sani Pass. The tour was one of the highlights of our month long trip around South Africa. The mountain scenery on the drive up the pass was stunning, the birding was excellent, and it was fun to cross into Lesotho and get a beer at the Highest Pub in Africa. We couldn’t have asked for a better guide than Emile, he knows the birds of the region well, he was able to get us excellent experiences with all the species we wanted to see, and he was fun to hang out with for the day. The tour was run in a modified Land Rover with a pop up top, which meant all four of our group had excellent views at all times, and we were happy to be in a proper 4wd vehicle for the rough 8km unpaved section of the road. I’d recommend Roof of Africa for any trip to Sani Pass, but for birders in particular Emile’s expertise were invaluable!

Thank you so much for the wonderful service! This experience was really exceptional. Peter is an amazing tour guide and we learned so much. He is a great driver and we felt save knowing he knew what he was doing. We would really recommend Roof of Africa Tours for anyone that wants to see the Sani Pass as its best. 10 out of 10!

We had such a great experience using Roof of Africa tours. We went on the tour up Sani pass because it was our wedding anniversary. When they heard it was our wedding anniversary, they emailed back with ideas on how to make the trip extra special. Peter, our tour guide was also excellent, very knowledgeable and friendly. Would highly recommend them.

A wonderful tour to the Sani Pass and into Lesotho. We had a great and skillful guide full with knowledge. The pass is steep and the road (rock and gravel) is in bad condition. It’s 2.5h up the pass, followed by a visit to a Lesotho village (bit set up). For lunch to the bar at the Sani Pass (highest in Africa according to them), followed by going down the pass again (1:30 to 2h). I would absolutely recommend them.

Amazing tour to Lesotho via the Sani Pass! My wife and I took this tour in February 2020. We were not disappointed! Great and informative tour guide which taught us about Lesotho and nearby wild life. The tour has stops at a local Lesotho village and the highest pub in Africa for lunch. A great day trip. For those reading other reviews that people should hurry up as the road is getting tarred — do not fret. It will take many many years to fully pave the pass and as of February 2020 very little was done at all. The pass is still extremely off-road and requires an expert driver and top quality car. Do not miss this tour while in Underberg!

Emile was incredible. He arranged a very long drive for me from Underberg to the Tugela falls, just so I could get as much done after I got back from Sani Pass. Our guide, Peter, (or Moilua, I have spelled his Lesotho name incorrectly) was literally the greatest, and safest of drivers who took us through the thickest mist I have ever seen. He was so passionate about sharing information about the history and culture of his beloved Lesotho. I will absolutely be booking again with Roof of Africa Tours when I return to SA.

Emile and his team are organised, friendly and extremely knowledgeable. If you are in the area - Sani Pass with Roof of Africa Tours is an experience you wouldn't want to miss with its variety of wildlife, interesting landscapes, breathtaking views & exciting climb up the switchbacks! Emile made it extra special with bird spotting, historical facts and background that made it such an enriching experience, plus a tea & snack stop - a very relaxed but professional approach. And wow so exhilarating doing the climb in his comfy vehicle - we felt very safe! We would recommend this tour to anyone who has a spirit of adventure :-)

Out of the 3.5 weeks I spent on my trip to South Africa, the 3 day tour to Lesotho with Roof of Africa was hands down one of the highlights of my trip. First, I wanted to say that the staff at Roof of Africa, especially Emile and Peter are some of the most dedicated, caring people I have ever met. They go out of their way to make sure you are taken care of and having a great time. They consistently go above and beyond and I have rarely seen this anywhere I have travelled. If there were awards for travel companies, I would nominate Roof of Africa a million times over until they get recognized for just how amazing they are.Emile is so patient. I usually travel solo but had a friend coming along with me. She was being difficult and took until the last second to confirm. I know this had to be causing huge headaches on the administration side but we never felt it once. Emile also arranged for a wonderful company to pick us up and drop us off in Durban. Then on the day of pick-up we were scheduled to fly from Kruger to Durban and our safari company dropped us at the wrong airport with not enough time to get to the correct airport. We were going to be hours late and I was panicking. Emile told us not to worry and she arranged with the driver to be there when our new flight would land. I don't know how she does it. Emile is a magical human! She also hand made a picnic lunch for us for the first day of the tour. Who does that? No one! It was the best lunch, and it is these type of personal touches that will make me shout from the top of Africa about how amazing this company is.Peter also needs to be mentioned - he is an outstanding guide. This tour is a lot of driving, through winding mountain roads and he is a fabulous driver. He is very safe, and attentive to the road, while also being attentive to us! There were so many instances where my friend and I were taking pictures out the window of the absolutely breathtaking scenery and without asking Peter would slow down, and often stop for us to take pictures. I mean, we did this a lot and never once did he seem annoyed. If I was him, I would have been annoyed! He is just so patient, wonderful and caring. He also is a master at spotting birds and animals. I would be looking out the windows and not see it and yet he is driving and yet somehow can spot them flying by. I have no words. I don't know how he does it. Is it magic? It must be magic.By the end of the tour I was so sad it was over. I could have easily spent 3 additional days touring with Peter and never gotten bored. Thank you so so much from the bottom of my heart for making my dreams of visiting Lesotho come true. Your country is so beautiful and everyone was so kind. I am dreaming of coming back, and when I do I absolutely will be booking again with Roof of Africa.

We had a great time with Roof of Africa tours going up the sani pass and staying for 1 night in Lesotho. Emile was very accommodating and looked after our car whilst we were gone. Our guide Peter did a fantastic job expertly navigating the road and stopping for us to take photos and videos. Once in Lesotho we enjoyed meeting the locals and visiting the highest pub in Africa! The food included was good and Emile tried to accommodate our dietary requirements which we are very grateful for. Our accommodation for the evening was pleasant and our horse riding trip was a thrill up the mountain. The price for the trip is definitely not cheap but it's reflected in the service you receive. I would definitely recommend Roof of Africa tours and the 1 night stay in Lesotho.
