Inconsiderate company that values insignificant amounts of money instead of providing quality products and helping customers resolve their complaints.

Bad experience. I contacted this company to get a wifi phone. After much discussion, and having settled on prices etc. and having decided to port my Telkom number to their PBX, I was told they are not interested in my business because I am not a registered company. I am a freelance academic editor (I've been providing services to universities for nearly 20 years). But it seems United Telecoms doesn't want my money. The company has responded. Obviously they need to state upfront that they deal only with registered companies.A further complaint: the account manager asked me to provide three months of my bank statements (but when I objected, said that this would not be necessary if I paid in advance) and then for a statement of my assets and liabilities. Does a company have a right to ask for these in order simply to sell a customer a desk phone and set up a monthly contract to use it? I suggest that United Telecoms look at the POPI Act, Chapter 3. For example:Section 10: Personal information may only be processed if, given the purpose for which it is processed, it is adequate, relevant and not excessive.Section 11: Personal information may only be processed if ...processing is necessary to carry out actions for the conclusion or performance of a contract to which the data subject is party.I see no adequate purpose for United Telecom's request. I was going to purchase the phone outright, and if I did not pay for the monthly service they could cancel it.
