Last Word Franschhoek
A magical setting in the heart of Franschhoek. Boutique hotel with 9 or 10 rooms. Stayed in Room 4 which was massive. Top class linen and small touches like underfloor heating and modern device charging points make you never want to leave your room. The staff were super accomodating and helpful. The feel of the hotel is more of a luxury home than a hotel to be honest. There are bicycles available to explore the town and the entire high street is walkable from the hotel.Price wise for a 5* hotel it does get pricey. I would recommend looking online for their specials and to book way in advance. The breakfast menu is small but wholesome. They don't offer lunch or supper which makes sense given the amount of competition they have on the High Street.I would seriously recommend this place as your base to explore Franschhoek for a night or two.The food in Franschhoek is world class, but The Last Word was my highlight of the town.

Manager was very helpful and friendly. Gave good recommendations for places to eat and wine tasting. Room and bathroom were large, so very spacious and comfortable. There were just two downsides which I think can be easily resolved for future visits.1. Room cleanliness and appearance. The bath didn't seem to have been cleaned when we checked in as I found some hair and what seemed like mascara marks on the side of the bath. So I had to wash the bath myself before using it. The bath towel had old black marks on it which also appeared to be from mascara. The white bed sheets also had old drop like stains on them. I assume the sheets and towels have had their fair amount of use and need replacing if the stains cannot be removed with thorough cleaning.2. The breakfast needs drastic improvement based on my two days of experience. The 3 tiered cold breakfast tray they serve every morning was fine, but the cooked breakfast was inedible for me personally. The food was drenched in oil and just not enjoyable. I ordered eggs benedict the first morning and my plate was covered in sauce which did not look or taste like hollandaise. I had to remove the actual breakfast from that plate to a side plate and attempt eating but I left most of it as it was oily. The second morning's breakfast was even worse...I had the croissant with scrambled egg, spinach and mushrooms. Again everything was drenched in oil as if every ingredient was thrown into the same oily pan. A croissant is made of butter so it does not need to be toasted in a pan with more butter or oil. I took one bite and left the rest. It made me nauseous instantly. I am not sure if the lady who cooked both breakfasts was actually the real cook at the hotel or just another staff member standing in for the cook, but I would highly recommend that a better cook is hired.I never complained about any of this on our trip because I did not want to be that guest" and rather focused on enjoying our stay in Franschhoek. We still tipped the cook and the manager regardless as this has been a tough year for the hospitality industry. I wish them all the best and hope 2021 will be better."

Beautiful boutique hotel with spacious and luxurious rooms. Conrad was absolutely fantastic and we were spoiled with the turndown service with innovative desserts. Breakfast was delicious and very friendly staff. Well done to Conrad and team!

We had a fantastic stay in December 2018 and absolutely loved this stunning hotel. We received such a warm welcome from Conrad & nothing was too much trouble during our 2 night stay. The hotel is beautiful, very charming & has a lovely laid back atmosphere. Our room was huge and immaculate, the pool area & terrace were lovely & the perfect place to relax. The help yourself bar was fab & we loved the delicious breakfast. The location was ideal & all the staff were fantastic. They even decorated our room with petals & left champagne for our honeymoom which was a lovely touch. I can't recommend this quaint boutique hotel enough!

A lovely boutique, townhouse hotel.Vast rooms, I'd go as far as saying the bathrooms were too big.Location is superb, all central restaurants and bars are walkable as well as wine tram etc.Secure parking. Pool is small with not a huge space around. Help yourself bar is a nice feature but could be more extensive.Breakfast was disappointing, three tiered plates more akin to an afternoon tea with meats and cheeses. I would have preferred to be asked what I wanted for the continental section rather than feel I was wasting food everyday. A fruit platter and bread basket option would have been better. Hot breakfast OK

Our group of 8 people stayed at this charming and exclusive hotel for 3 nights. We were very impressed with our stay and in particular, Conrad, the manager - who went out of his way to exceed our expectations. The other staff were also very willing and friendly. The cleanliness of the hotel and its rooms, attention to detail, as well as all the small touches made our stay very memorable. Every night, we came back to a culinary treat in our rooms - something unique to South Africa that became a talking point with our overseas visitors.
