Who doesn’t love penguins? I have never seen one before until I stopped here. So glad I did. They were all over the beach and boulders here mostly sunning themselves! Great elevated boardwalks with views of the oceans! If you are driving by you have to stop or make a half day trip of it from Cape Town. Driving through the local towns is interesting!

Really beautiful beach and lots of penguins. There's a free area you can walk through and see some penguins next to the walking path but they weren't super active. The part you pay for was more expensive than we expected. We were able to get a better view of the penguins and they were more active but it wasn't as great as I was hoping. There was an area you could get in the beach (instead of just seeing it from a boardwalk) but there were no penguins in that area when we went. Maybe just bad timing??? Not sure if I'd pay for it again.

The Boulders Penguin Colony helps to conserve the African Penguin ( or Jackass Penguin) which is now an endangered species. You can pay to into the colony - free entrance of you have a Wildcard. You can also see the penguins as you walk along the path - this is a well maintained planked walkway. You can see some penguins nesting close to the fence. There is another path through a gate which leads to beautiful spots where you can picnic on the rocks and swim in the bay. Beautiful clean white sandy beaches.

Crowded with people, walkway allows a few great viewpoints of the Penguins. Maybe an early or later visit would be a better visit... cool spot.

A Memorable Conservation Encounter at the Boulders Penguin ColonyI recently had the pleasure of visiting the Boulders Penguin Colony, an incredible conservation initiative aimed at protecting the endangered African Penguin, also known as the Jackass Penguin. This experience left a lasting impression on me, and I highly recommend it to anyone with an appreciation for wildlife and conservation.Upon arrival, I was delighted to learn that entrance to the colony is either free with a Wildcard or available for a small fee. This accessibility ensures that more people can actively participate in the conservation efforts and learn about these fascinating creatures. The entrance fee is definitely worth it, given the exceptional experience that awaits. The first thing that struck me was the well-maintained planked walkway that guides visitors through the colony. This elevated pathway not only offers a comfortable stroll but also provides an unobtrusive vantage point to observe the penguins in their natural habitat. I was thrilled to witness these charming birds going about their daily activities, completely undisturbed by our presence. As I walked along the path, I was captivated by the sight of penguins nesting close to the fence. It was a heartwarming experience to witness their dedication to nurturing their offspring. The proximity allowed for an intimate view of their behavior and interactions, giving me a deeper appreciation for the importance of conserving their habitat.Beyond the main path, I discovered another gate leading to breathtaking spots where one can enjoy a picnic on the rocks and even take a refreshing swim in the bay. The natural beauty of the area, combined with the playful presence of the penguins, created a truly magical atmosphere. The clean white sandy beaches added to the charm, making it an ideal spot to relax and soak in the tranquility. In addition to the incredible visuals, the Boulders Penguin Colony offers an educational experience. Throughout the area, there are informative signs and displays that provide valuable insights into the lives and struggles of the African Penguins. Learning about their conservation status and the efforts being made to protect them left me feeling inspired to contribute to their preservation.Overall, my visit to the Boulders Penguin Colony was an unforgettable experience. From the well-maintained walkway to the intimate encounters with these remarkable birds, every aspect of the visit was thoughtfully designed to create a memorable and educational experience. I left with a renewed sense of awe for the African Penguin and a desire to contribute to their conservation. Whether you are a wildlife enthusiast, a nature lover, or simply seeking a unique and fulfilling experience, I wholeheartedly recommend a visit to the Boulders Penguin Colony.

Negative reviews here about price, let’s hope it goes to efforts for the penguins. My negative review would be why so little room for the penguins. Their habitat, already depleted, is taken away by two large human beaches on both sides. Eliminate those and just give it back to the animals.Otherwise, good place for children and animal lovers to see penguins up close and personal. Zoo’s and shows do a much better job of educating one on penguins.Don’t be upset or disappointed if you miss or don’t get to this spot as a tourist.

As a Capetonian, the penguin colony is always a treat for me to visit.I love watching these unique, small birds waddle through their colony, unphased for the most part by the crowds of human onlookers. This place can get mighty busy though. Peak season in summer can get windy, hot and crowded so be prepared. There are restaurants, restrooms and shops in the vicinity as well. You walk down a designated walkway and stand on a platform to view the penguins. If you would like a bit more space and a place to take a nice swim, boulders beach gives you ample view of penguins (watch out, they do bite) but is a bit pricey. This is a nice way to spend a beach day though so pack the sunscreen and water.

The penguins were adorable! And it was nesting season so you got to see all the mama penguins taking care of their eggs and laying on them in the sand. We also got to see several penguins swim while the waves were coming. They do close earlier at 5pm so be mindful of that

I always go to the beach side in Summer.... at least once a year. This place truly is my happy place. But this was the first time going in Winter. So we went to the colony- viewing area.We were seriously overwhelmed with all the babies.... it was nesting season, and it was beautiful. There really is nothing as happy as a penguin running along a stoney path...Well maintained pathways, lots of small stairs up and down.

Stunning natural environment for the penguins to enjoy their sunbathing and swimming. This is a dream and I love going to visit the penguins. Most of the areas are gated off where you shouldn’t walk to leave the penguins to have a safe breeding zone.Pro tip: I’ve paid to go inside the area and wouldn’t necessarily recommend paying. You can go visit them for free if you go towards the left from the parking lot. Go towards the beach and you’ll see plenty of penguins sunbathing, swimming and hanging by their dens.Pro pro tip: bring a blanket and picnic because it’s a beach. You’ll get to hang out with them and have a good time with friends or a romantic date.
