39 on Church

We have stayed here before over the years since 2018 and service has been good.A few things need attention like lights that don't work and PLEASE PLEASE,PLEASE nets over the food at meal times flys are everywhere.Daphne was very friendly on arrival and thru breakfast.

Excellent value for money, comfortable and clean accommodation in one of the best roads in Port Elizabeth - upmarket, tree lined road. The hosts are friendly and helpful, the bed comfy, the pool welcome for hot days, Aircon in the rooms is a bonus and breakfast is excellent. This accommodation is a hidden gem in Port Elizabeth and I had a fab stay.

The service and staff are absolutely phenomenal, which adds a personal touch to the stay, creating that home away from home feeling, will definitely return, when I am back in Port Elizabeth. I booked at 39 on Church for the Friday night before and the Saturday night of my wedding. I kindly called the guesthouse to confirm all would be in order for my makeup artist, hairstylist and photographer to be around for my preparation photos on the Saturday. Upon arrival we noticed we were placed in a neglected cottage in the back corner of the property where: a) it smelt like damp, b) the air conditioning didn’t work, and c) the paint peeling off the bathroom ceiling fell on you while you showered. To access the cottage from the parking area you also had to walk along a rustic path past litter piles in the garden. I was horrified at the condition of the accomodation given the reviews and especially since they were aware of the occasion. At the last minute I had to arrange a different location to get ready in order to be comfortable for the day. Upon speaking to the manageress on the Saturday morning, who was apologetic, we were thankfully put up in a far superior room on the Saturday night. However no further effort has been made for the inconvenience and discomfort experienced on the first night. I’m left incredibly disappointed by the experience unfortunately and would not recommend 39 on Church to others.

Lovely place with friendly staff and they even packed me a breakfast bag because I had to leave very early in the morning! Will stay again!
