Phelwana Game Lodge

Excellent Service, nice park, competent and friendly staff, great cusine ... everything was great expect: this is a really small park which just contains 1 of the big 5 (bufalo). If you want to see the other 4, you have to go to the Kruger Park (35 min by car)Except if this fact I can highly recommend a stay at this place to everyone!

Best lodging and food we had in South Africa. It started with a warm welcome to start with. Very clear and welcoming start. Our private house was really great, and the diner we had was of an amazing quality. Phelwana lodge made our start of holiday superb after that 20hour flight.

Amazing service from staff at Phelwana really made our stay awesome. Our chalet was clean, had its own pool and was serviced daily. The beauty of Phelwana is that of waking up to see a warthog with its young crossing or giraffe nuzzling at the leaves around your chalet. Phelwana doesn't have the big five, but there is Buffalo, hippo, giraffe, jackal, leopard and the Orpen gate to Kruger national park is 30 minutes away. It's far to drive from JHB to Phelwana but we'll certainly visit again.

Friendly staff and beautiful grounds. There are quite a few animals that are easy to find during morning bush walks and game drives. The food is tasty, the amenties are nice, and the bed was comfortable.

Very nice location. We had the animals (giraffe,...) directly in front of our cottage. Very good and friendly service. Very safe there. Very good food for dinner and breakfast.

A secluded and deep in the wild game reserve, Phelwana is an excellent place. With a limited number of rooms, it has a cozy feeling to it and the team there treats you like family. We stayed there over a weekend and had a lovely time

Chris and I had the pleasure of being some of the first guests to stay at Phelwana. We had a most memorable stay in magnificent accommodation, so tastefully and carefully appointed. The food and service was first class or should we say 5 star. Each meal was an absolute treat and a delicious delight. Janine and Pierre with the whole team at Phelwana, you are doing a phenomenal job and you deserve to become one of the top Lodges.

Superb starting point of our journey into the bush.We spent a night @Phelwana before going on safari in Klaserie and Balule Reserve.And I must admit that the whole experience has been a superb starting point of our journey into the bush (the lodge is situated in the Hoedspruit area, about 40 Km from Orpen Gate to the Kruger National Park)It is absolutely stunning and perfectly managed by Cathie and her staff (Cheney, Nathaniel and Robert, among the ones we came in contact).The villas are very spacious and can accomodate up to 4 people (we stayed in the Shingwedzi one). The food at the restaurant is delicious.Activities such as bush walks and light" game drives are included in the rates.There are no big five but you can spot impala

If I could keep this short and use a four letter word to describe our stay at Phelwana Game Reserve I would, but 'EPIC' does not cover the half of it!We spent 5 of the most relaxing and enjoyable days and nights at Phelwana gamereserve. From the moment we arrived nothing was too much trouble for the team; their attention to detail was second to none, their knowledge- both game related and hospitality based was above and beyond. We saw everything we hoped too and more, I could not recommend Phelwana game reserve morehighly for those who are looking for seriously good holiday offering far more ‘bang for buck’ (pun alert - apologies!) than you expect. Will I go back - without hesitation.

Absolutely fantastic place!!! The reception on our arrival was great. The tent setting, overlooking a dam with hippo, fish eagle, abundant game species and the tranquility is absolutely fantastic.
