Hawklee Country House

We enjoyed an amazing stay in January 2023. The property is breathtakingly beautiful and the hosts welcoming, attentive and warm. Thank you Tanya and Richard for making our stay memorable.

Sean and Tanya went over and above all expectations as hosts. Homely food served and cooked with love. Cosy restaurant overlooking the river and magnificent trees. Great little pub to unite with friendly guests. River walks to unwind and rejuvenate the mind and soul. Will definitely be going back.

We chose Hawklee Country House for a quick Valentine’s getaway and could not have been happier with our choice!Sean and Tanya are by far the best hosts we have experienced in a very long time. They are extremely helpful, accommodating, caring and pay attention to the finest details. This is evident in the quality of the rooms (that have absolutely everything you can wish for, including a make-up mirror and back-up lighting for loadshedding interruptions!) as well as the quality of the meals we enjoyed.We were treated to a mini snack box on arrival as well as a beautifully decorated bed (for Valentine’s).The romantic candle lit dinner with complimentary pre-drinks was mouth-watering. I had the trout, and it was delectable! Breakfast was also very tasty and well-presented.The setting on the banks of the Lion’s River was the topping on the cake.If you are looking to get away from the rat race, look no further!

There are not enough complementary words to describe our experience. Sean and Tanya are wonderful and attentive hosts. Sean's ability to remember how you take your tea (or gin) is infallible. Tanya went through a lot of effort ensuring that the booking process was seamless and we arrived safely. Esta always had a smile when serving our food and the behind the scenes staff ensured a spotless room. Oh goodness, the bed was comfortable! The food was really amazing! Better than some of the meals we had in town. The bar was also well stocked and drinks were served quickly and ice cold. The river babbled away and it was easy to get lost in thought watching the current flow. Any request was never too much for them. I'm not sure what more you could ask for.Extra info: The house is about 12 minutes from town and they have a generator.

What a beautiful relaxing place to stay! Hearing and watching the Lion's River from your thatched cottage as it passed through the property was wonderful. Tanya and Shaun were such obliging hosts - nothing was too much trouble, and the accommodation had everything and more to make for a very comfortable stay. The optional meals we had were delicious and so well-presented. We have no hesitation recommending Hawklee Country House!

Hawklee is a slice of the best the midlands has to offer. Sean and Tanya are brilliant hosts. Happy people who are extremely accommodating. Their food is excellent and includes locally sourced products. The honeymoon suite" is fabulous

What a great place we stayed at after a long road trip. Owners Sean and Tanya are so welcoming. Excellent breakfast. Rooms are clean and well appointed with fridge, heated sheets , spa bath and even emergency lights for black outs. Will be back.

Quiet and peaceful location. The owners and staff are amazing. Very friendly, quick to give recommendations and help with any queries you have about the room. There is a bar on site, reservation only breakfast and dinner restaurant, and each room has a breathtaking view of the river. While you sleep, all you hear is the river which helps you sleep. The rooms are spacious with spa baths.
