Being a well travelled person I am more aware than most about how important it is to understand local flora and fauna, and the dangers that can ensue. As a first time visitor to SA I was fortunate enough to be in Simon's Town when I needed to seek advice and possible treatment for a rather nasty bite I had received earlier in my trip. The service I received from Trish and Judy almost felt like something out of the Twilight Zone! What I mean is, in 2022, even in my own country (UK), I have not experienced this type of care, concern and understanding from a medical professional. Their genuine compassion and care, and ability to make me feel at ease felt like I was in a local village in the 1950's and being looked after by my childhood nurse. Remember, this was a pharmacy, not an expensive private health care facility. I had a dressing carefully applied and was given professional treatment and advice that I trusted instinctively.I realise now that, certainly as a visitor to SA, if you are in need of traditional care, traditional bedside manner and an over-and-above approach to health care - visit a small, local pharmacy. Better still, if you are staying in Cape Town and find yourself in need of care that you can trust and advice you can believe from a well trained, experienced professional who sincerely cares about a person's well-being. Take a short drive to Simon's Town and seek out Trish and Judy. You'll be as right as rain in no time!

Two days into our SA trip, I started feeling sick and knew exactly what was happening, as I often get infections and require antibiotics. We called a few medical clinics but they were either closed or did not respond, so I took a chance by walking straight into this pharmacy. The pharmacist was the LOVELIEST person on Earth, took the time to listen and ask the right questions and got me my antibiotics right away. She was even worried that it would be too expensive for me, but it was $30 (so much cheaper than back home that I laughed in relief). Being sick while in a foreign country is extremely stressful and isolating but I am so thankful for this person.

Let me explain: Pharmaceutical companies sell mountains of drugs to factory farms, which depend on them to maintain their abnormally intensive systems. The government, invested in keeping the generous animal food lobbies flush, runs federal programs pushing people to eat increasing amounts of animal-based foods.People oblige. People get sick, requiring medication for the rest of their lives, along with expensive medical procedures. The drugs and procedures falsely assure them that they can continue to eat the food that made them sick in the first place.People continue to support the animal agriculture industry by buying their products, which pay for studies to further convince the public that animal products are an essential part of a healthy diet. People continue to support the pharmaceutical companies because they are tethered to their prescription drugs. This allows drug companies to pay for the “education” of our doctors who prescribe more drugs to us.
