Great hiking route with pools for swimming

The 3 Pools, situated on the Thukelana River (and one of its small tributaries) form the culmination of a 4.3 km hike from the Garden Castle nature reserve. There is easier access from a small road, but this is restricted to patrons of Lake Naverone (although this requirement is largely ignored by the public). The Pools are simply beautiful, and tremendous fun for the whole family. If you are hiking from Garden Castle, then there is a day visitor's fee payable at the office there. The pools themselves are deep and refreshing. It is possible to jump off the rocks surrounding the pools. Being in the wilderness, there is no human infrastructure at the pools, so don't expect facilities like public toilets. If you would like to introduce your family to the joys of hiking in the Drakensberg, be sure to make the 3 Pools your destination!
