Literally got threatened by so called community volunteers to say we could not enter without 'giving them something' and made us feel unsafe.. we got back in the car and lost out on the viewing of the Elands Falls and the historic tunnel!! We then reported what happened to an SAP officer at the tollgate up the road.. he just laughed and said it's not his jurisdiction but we mustn't take chances if we feel unsafe!! Disgusting that we are not safe to explore our country's heritage!

We walked through the old tunnel to get to the waterfall side, a torch is needed.

It’s been 30 odd years since I walked to the bottom of the falls. We were advised to not attempt the hike down as apparently the vehicles get broken into while you are away and your goods get stolen. Such a pity as the falls are gorgeous. Sad that we freely cannot enjoy what nature has given to us without fear of what other people do to your belongings when you out of sight.

On exiting the new tunnel, turn immediately left. There is a broken down shelter next to the tunnel and parking. Members of the community forum volunteer to watch your car, or walk you through the old tunnel. As it curves, you do need a torch. There is a platform on which to view the falls. It has a few missing planks, although the structure itself seems solid. The volunteer guide does ask for a donation afterwards. Our guide asked for a donation in the same region as for the Sudwala Caves, which we thought a bit much for so little information and the 5 minute walk.

Visited this spectacular site many years ago and now again while on vacation. I was surprised that there were no boards or markings to this place. Wood structure and lookout to waterfall neglected and damaged. Might be dangerous for careless people and small children. Take a torch to get through the tunnel leading to the waterfall. I would sugest visiting in groups for safety reasons.
