Jakes is very knowledgeable and experienced in all things South Africa and safari. Within moments of starting the tour he provides the history and background that gives you a sense of how modern South Africa evolved. Once the safari begins you really see the benefit of an expert guide. He had a knack for finding some of the rarest animals and expertly navigates his environment to get the best angles. His booking skills are also top notch as each camp put us in the best position to see certain animals on sunset tours and the accommodations were always comfortable and easily accessible. All in all Jakes guided us through the experience smoothly and helped us create life long memories that come with seeing the big 5 up close.

Jakes took us from Johannesburg into the Drakensburg mountains. He is very personable and knowledgeable, had great conversations about the country, culture and history. Would 100% use him again and I'm sure a tour with him would be great!

We did a two-day custom tour with Jakes for Panorama route and Kruger National Park.If you are looking for a tour custom to your needs, this is exactly the tour you need. We were constrained in terms of the activities that we could do due to our 1-year-old son. Jakes took very well care this and ensure we get maximum out of our visit to Panorama route and Kruger National Park.We very much enjoyed the Panorama route. Jakes ensure we get enjoyable experience even when the weather was not so favourable. We loved the visit to the viewpoint for Blyde River Canyon and Three Rondavels. He also got us on Boat ride in Blyde River which was excellent as we saw loads of wildlife along with amazing view. He organised one night stay in a lodge in Hazyview with an amazing view.Visit to Kruger National Park and sighting of its wildlife was breath-taking and we will always remember South Africa for this experience. Again, Jakes exceptionally managed to get my wife on Sunset Safari and myself on Night Drive, whilst one of us looks after the baby and do other activity in the safety of the camp.

We spent 6 days traveling with a group of 11 women. Jakes was very friendly and patient with us. He is very professional, well organized and has a lot of knowledge about local culture, nature and life. We had amazing trip with him.

Jakes put together an amazing safari and panorama route journey together for my wife and I... and he even organized a special surprise for us since it was our honeymoon! It was the perfect tour, encapsulating some of the most beautiful landscapes from the Blyde River canyon as well as TONS of big game spotting in Kruger Park. Highlights were definitely the many close sightings we had of Big 5 animals, as well as the boat ride in the Blyde River canyon. Best of all, Jakes is a genuinely kind and insightful guy, with whom it was a pleasure to spend the many hours of van time throughout the tour.

Jakes was a fantastic help fetching us from the airport. He communicated well and was very organised. He's incredibly knowledgeable and is very accommodating. I highly recommend his services :-)

Travelling in South Africa exceeding our expectations. Amatungulu Tours arranged a tailor tour for us, as we were doing a business conference, and could only join halve of its itineraries. Jakes did the planning and bookings around accommodation availabilities, as well as many fantastic activities in the Garden Route and Durban area. We did not realise how big SA was until we had to travel the distance on the roads, but the scenery and unique diverse landscapes just made it all worth while. The guiding and interpretation we got about the history and culture was just brilliant. We also felt safe and well looked after by him and the overnight staff. The food was always very good, and we highly recommended this tour company to everyone.

Following a 5 day stay in Cape Town, my wife and I were - by pure fluke - lucky enough to be the only people on this particular tour (the 5 Day Luxury Tour of the Garden Route); we therefore had our own private tour at our disposal. Jakes - our tour guide and the owner/operator of Amatungulu Tours - was absolutely first class. He was punctual, very polite & attentive and knowledgeable regarding all things relating to South African culture, history and wildlife.Jakes provided a real personal touch that we felt was second to none and was happy to accommodate any requests regarding the tour itinerary. All of the accommodation and experiences that he booked were excellent & thoroughly enjoyable - all of which made for a wonderful holiday, that we will never forget. Jakes was our tour guide, and you can't wish for a much better person to show you around South Africa. It was the first time that my partner and I visited South Africa, so we greatly enjoyed how knowledgeable Jakes is on the country's history and culture. His deep expertise and passion for wildlife certainly came in handy as well while we were in Kruger.We enjoyed the small group size, which meant that we were able to see a lot more sights than other larger tour groups.
