Life Hilton Private Hospital

I really think the specialists and nursing staff here are great, but administration is a mess. It’s been 2 months since I’ve given birth to my son, and we still don’t have the correct hospital bill, despite countless checks and follow ups on our part. Our medical aid statement is a mess due to this, and their incorrect authorisations, and we have not yet been able to submit our claim to gap cover. We only have a month left to do so. I’ve heard of others who have missed this 3 month claim window with their gap cover due to these issues. Absolutely shocking for a private sector hospital.

This is the second day I'm spending in a Medical Ward, having breathing problems. Linen has not been changed, floor and other surfaces not wiped. There is water coming out of the shower/toilet when one showers because the rubbers to stop the water flow are loose, it has dried on its own

If there were a minus 5 star rating to give this hospital, I would give it. An elderly relative of mine was “rescued” from this hospital after spending a few days there, following an infection he suffered.The poor, man returned home covered in bruises, and thoroughly traumatized. Apparently, he’d been tied down, instead of being sedated, when he had a panic attack (this is an extremely frail bird of a man). He was almost discharged, without having the IV needle and tubes removed from his arm. When this was pointed out to the staff responsible, they proceeded to remove the tubes and IIV with rough disregard for the pain it caused this individual- when they removed the “second skin” plasters, used to hold the IV parts in place, they pulled them off so roughly, that the top layer of his skin was pulled off along with them. His desperate screaming did not soften their approach. I am a nurse in the USA, and learning this from my relatives broke my heart, and appalled me to the bone. If this happened in Europe or the USA, this medical staff would have faced dire consequences.Considering the amount of money this hospital charges their medical aid for treatment, one would think that they’d treat their patients with more dignity and compassion.I will, henceforth advice any of my friends and family visiting South Africa from abroad, to avoid seeking medical treatment/attention at South African hospitals (private or public), if they possibly can.There appear to be no repercussions for incompetent/reckless treatment of patients. No liability for those who, instead of treating patients with compassion and competence, leave them with physically and mentally scarred.

My mom and I were at Hilton life today. on Christmas day as we were both in pain. My mom had hurt her back a few days ago and I had a personal issue. The way we were treated today at casualty at Hilton life hospital was not on and actually sad. I am so disappointed. We travelled 2 hrs to get to the hospital. Once we got there we were met with such attitude at reception but it didn't stop there. The doctor that saw to my mom and myself was exceptionally rude with us both. I have never in my life met a doctor like this man. What a waste of time and money as we both left still in pain. Hilton life has to seriously improve on their staff as well as supposedly qualified doctors. This doctor made us feel as we were problems and he didn't really want to help and has no communication skills what so ever. No person will drive 2 hrs to a hospital on xmas day and leave there family if they are not in pain. It's such a pity that the staff are going to cause people to rather go to other hospitals. Really not happy at all.

Certainly not recommended if you have a lung condition- we asked for the services of a pulmonologist for a patient in ICU with a supposed lung condition that was contracted in this very ICU. Only to to be told by the Head that no pulmonologist services were available at this hospital and the only others available in the KZN vicinity were not allowed to set foot in Hilton ICU due to personal differences. It was then suggested that we were welcome to remove this critically ill patient to another hospital if we wanted to seek the services of these pulmonologists!The irony was that this is the same patient that could not be moved even a few metres to get a CT scan in, due to the severity of his condition!Sadly, we will never know if a pulmonologist would have made a difference but it is a huge pity Brett, when the ego overrides the patient or family requests and to do so with minimal compassion.The positive of this facility is the largely wonderful nursing staff that we ecountered in the ICU.

You really helped that our stay there was a short pleasant experience and that we were able to hit the road after our unplanned visit" to the theater."

Was cared for in the most caring way staff in surgical ward are fantastic would recommend hton life to be the best
