Zandvlei Estuary Nature Reserve
I enjoyed visiting the healthy wetland area to the north-west, which was quite active with regard to biodiversity. Saw plenty of spoor and birdlife - generally a good sign. I hope that at some point a policy can be put in place to reduce pollution coming in from the contributing rivers, however that may be difficult to manage. Look forward to the next visit Zandvlei!

It's super relaxing walk in the reserve with few distractions from the water and birds throughout the area. It's good to see incremental improvement over time and the contruction of the bord hides and viewing platforms is pretty good. It's wheelchair friendly in parts, but perhaps pretty limited for wheelchair users.Parking is also a bit limited and not clearly marked. It's fairly well hidden away and the road leading to the reserve is not paved, so drive slowly. It's pretty safe, and there are security patrols to ensure safety. Multiple bathrooms are available on site as well as an educational centre.

Zandvlei is the last remaining functioning estuary on the False Bay coastline and boasts high biodiversity numbers of fish, birds, fauna and flora. A great place for hosting Environmental Education programmes and getting children to enjoy and appreciate nature! The staff are fantastic and passionate about what they do and will always be happy to take you around for a tour.BEST nature reserve to visit!!

Zandvlei Park is one of the most missed spots as it is right next to the world famous Muizenberg Beach. This vlei and open space is ideal to come have a picnic or go for a walk/jog and best part it's free. Beautiful view of the mountain in the back ground. This is a spot that definitely gets over looked easily.

Amazing place to be. The esturay is well maintained and most of the river water from the cities runs through the estuary and into the ocean, when the river mouth is open. No swimming is allowed here. An esturay is where freshwater (river water) meets with ocean water. It's important for many species as some of them can only rely on estuaries to reproduce and migrate. Respect your nature reserves because they protecting our own natural biodiversity of Cape Town

I kayak around the reserve often and enjoy it every time, especially the bird life & particularly when I am able to get reasonably close to the two Fish Eagles.
