I had the most pleasant experience at this branch. The staff is very organized, professional and friendly. The branch manager Ms Nozipho Ngcobo addressed me very politely when I had a concern regarding the Branch online booking system. She showed me step by step on my phone , and that has helped me book for my family members online. As a branch manager, Ms Ngcobo is definitely leading by example which is why her branch is so organized and offers all services efficiently. The staff members are where they are supposed to be doing what they are supposed to be doing( which is service delivery) and they do it with the utmost respect. That “We Care” sign is an epitome of the care that they offer to their clients. Ndwedwe home affairs deserves my five star rating , if I could rate with more stars I would. Keep up the great work!

My passport saga began sometime in July 2022 when I went to Standard Bank Kingsmead to apply only to be told that I still had passport application outstanding from 10 years ago! This apparently is not uncommon and can only be sorted out at a Home affairs office. So seeing all the great reviews about Ndwedwe off I went on the 16th August after getting an appointment. All went well, the little lady who did the biometrics was lovely. Then cam the first hitch, again with the outstanding application. The lady at the counter told me she had to email Pretoria to get it reversed and it could take about three hours. So we waited and eventually the reversal came through just after 15h20. I paid the R400 and headed for home with the request to collect both ID and passport from DHA Umgeni Road. Then things went pear-shaped. My ID was collectable but not my passport. Because there was an amount outstanding! I eventually got to see a Ms Perumal at Umgeni Road who basically said 'sorry not my branch sort it out with Ndwedwe!' Ms Perumal hand back your 'We Care Badge!' So i thought rather than drive all the way back to Ndwedwe I would email the manager Ms Nozipho Ngcobo and ask her to get someone in her branch to link the payment to my passport application and avoid a retiree from having to drive again to Ndwedwe. Obviously Ms Ngcobo doesn't know how to use email because I never received a response! Ah maybe she knows about cell phones, so I phoned, no reply, maybe she was learning to use the email! I left a voice mail, no response! So I sent a sms, again nada! Nozi hand back you We Care badge!' On the 28th September I drove back to Ndwedwe to sort it out

If in context of other homeaffairs, this one does do better as they don't have the same number of people as some in the city. They do acceptable visa and master card. You do need a copy of your identity document or passport. When entering, talk to the greeter or security guard there to direct you. There are some monster speed humps and cattle on the route up there. Toilets are usable at the time. There are higher chances of loadshedding. So, as always, be patient and respectful. Most delays aren't anyone's fault.

I first experienced Ndwedwe home affairs two months ago when I completed my online passport application by having my photo and finger prints done at the branch. Today, I took my wife and children back to have their passports done. Once again the service was brilliant, professional and the best I have seen in any Home Affairs Department for a very very long time. While we were waiting for the final step in the process, it was announced that the staff were taking their lunch break. However, in no time at all (it felt less than 30 minutes) they were back serving the people. This little Home Affairs Department is a hidden gem. I would highly recommend it.

I visited The Department of Home Affairs - Ndwedwe on the 28th of April 2022 at 7am. I was about the 25th person in line. Sadly at 08:05 one of the staff advised us that there was no electricity as Eskom was doing some maintenance.I returned the next day at 07:00am. I was the 27th person in the line. Just after 08:00am the security guard split people in to the following groups a) Collections b) Applications and c) Temporary documents. We were then directed into the property where a staff member collected our documents. I had already done my application online and payment for my SmartCard and Passport. All I had to hand over was a copy of my ID.We were then allocated numbers inside the branch. Thereafter the process is simple. Picture, finger prints, application and payment. The branch is the cleanest I have been to. There is order and staff is friendly. I was done at 12:20pm - however, by that time the was literally no line outside. One could attempt going after one as it seems that you could be done faster. I prefer to be there earlier though.Like many, I am not a fan of government department however, I must admit this was one of the most efficient and pleasant experience to date.Things to note:- Cash payments ONLY- Disabled toilets aren’t working at the moment- Carry copies of your ID, passport and proof residence- They are extremely strict about the use of cellphone inside the branch.

Very happy we chose Ndwedwa Home Affairs on 3 Nov 2020. It's about a 50-minute drive north of Durban, inland of Tongaat. The roads getting there are poor, but the Home Affairs building is new and fresh. The aircons work, and the offices are very clean. We went to get my passport renewal done, my Smart-ID, and our baby girls first passport. My wife had to be with me for our daughter's passport and we had to produce certified copies of both our ID's for this process. For my passport and Smart-ID, I needed no photos or supporting docs, not even my old Passport. Everything was captured online, as well as my photo, so even the forms I filled out previously and brought with me was left in my folder. The staff are friendly and efficient. The process was fairly painless if you understand that this takes a few hours of queuing. We arrived at 7am, entered the premises around 830, and into the building around 10am. Once photos were taken, I had my info captured and then I paid the lady and we left. I requested pickup from Pinetown. Hopefully, Pinetown is not a nightmare for collection.Couple observations:When you enter the property you are split into a couple of lines, Passports and IDs. If you need passports then arrive early, around 7, but if you only need ID's then anytime in the morning is ok, as that line moved quickly.Inside, whenever the computers or the system" starts to act up during the photo capturing

The easiest way to get attended to at DoHA Ndwedwe is to Google 'Home Affairs Booking'. Then select 'Branch Appointment Booking System'. The system will allow you to input your ID number. Thereafter follow the prompts and capture date, time and Ndwedwe for your appointment. You will receive an email confirming your appointment. Bring your email (no need to print it). Arrive for your appointment and walk up to the front door and sign in and enter. No queuing if you have an appointment. Simple!
