Sundoo Sea Point
Summary: don’t go there if you’re Black. 3 of us sat down to eat shortly after 8pm and didn’t receive our meals until close to 9:30pm, alongside other tables that had come AFTER us. We watched the manager and wait staff tend to all the other tables around us, meanwhile, no one checked on our table to see if we needed more drinks or anything else. When our food arrived, the rice was cold & I personally took it to the manager who said she would provide fresh food but only heated it in the microwave. Our parantha was brought out overcooked, which is why also returns. Again, no one asked if our meals were okay or if we needed anything else. By this time,I had finished my first drink & my glass was empty. The table behind us, the waiter was calling the guys “boss” & asking if they were okay. The same service was being given to all the tables except us. At this point, we’ve been at the restaurant for 1.5 hrs & NO ONE IS CHECKING ON US. So we asked to speak to the manager & tried to explain that as the only table with Black people in the restaurant, we felt that we were being treated differently. She then got upset at us for calling the service racist and said to us that we should be grateful she gave us a table because “it’s such a busy night.” We walked in, just like the other tables, so why should we feel “lucky” to eat there? As we walked out, upset because the manager blamed us for our own experience, she began to talk to the table of white Germans next to us who had decided to involve themselves in our conversation, explaining to them how she felt attacked by us. The manager did not apologize for our treatment or try to make things better. She seemed bothered that we would question her. It’s clear, Sundoo is for a certain kind of person, and it is not a Black person. Such a shame that this is happening in 2023, do better. The photos are her complaining to other guests about us & then walking away when she saw me recording.

Another unbelievable meal at the best Indian restaurant. I tried the butter chicken it was the best I have ever had. I like to order the pineapple curry and mix it with the chicken curry.

Quaint India restaurant that serves amazing Indian flavours. It was great to have curry away from home.

So eating at an indian restaurant is always a challenge when your mom is an Iron chef. I am proud to say that this Indian restaurant scored a 10 out of 10 critic from me. That's hard to get that out of me, especially when I can't eat hot food. Darn!!!. Butter chicken was crazy perfect and so was the mutton breyani. Butbitvwas the service that blew us away.

This is a very lovely place in Sea Point. It is close to the road so the outside will be very busy. The food was a delight and the service was great. The lady kept checking that we were okay, she served with a smile and made small talk occasionally. I would say that it is child friendly. It was a wonderful experience. If you are looking for delicate and delicious Southern Indian cuisine then I would definitely recommend Sundoo.

I enjoyed dinner here with my colleagues recently and I had a mushroom/truffle pasta with added chicken and a mango daiquiri (according to the waiter they were out of strawberries, so no strawberry daiquiri for me which was my only let down. The food was good, I really wish I had ordered the butter chicken one of my colleagues had (it tasted soooo goood!) and our waiter was friendly and attentive. I am definitely coming back to have the butter chicken!

My guests and I had a superb evening. The food was excellent - the lamb chops are to die for - and the wine list intelligently constructed. The service was beyond reproach. I think it is one of the better Indian restaurants in South Africa. Their wine list keeps getting better and better.

Best Indian food I’ve had in Cape Town. The Butter Chicken and the Kerala Chicken were incredible. The roti was also amazing! Definitely plan on showing up hungry, because the portions were sizable and it was so good, we did not want to save anything for later. The staff were incredible friendly as well, and had some great suggestions for us when we asked about the dishes. We did not have a reservation, but they managed to fit us in, which was so kind. The restaurant was completely full (which isn’t surprising based on the people and food) but the atmosphere was great thanks to the lighting, decor, and layout. I will definitely be returning!

Absolutely loved coming to Sundoo one Friday evening. The staff were warm and attentive and the atmosphere is lively. The food was amazing, we really enjoyed the Bunnies as well as the Nepalese style dumplings. Food tastes fresh and explosive with flavors. We'll definitely be back!

Went there yesterday specifically to get the puri patha. Was glad I did, it was delicious. That being said, I did struggle between a 3/4 star rating here. While the patha was good, I found the puri a little too crisp. Also R52 for one (about 10cm in size) was a bit pricey. Then the prawn chilli bites were inedible. To be fair, I did go during loadshedding, but perhaps they should rather say they can’t make something. As per the pictures, it was R98 for this. It had 4 very small pieces of prawn stuck inside. The dough inside was completely raw, and bottom was burnt. Obviously not deep fried. Total loss of nearly R100 as we couldn’t eat it at all. Then also ordered the trio of rotis. Portion size good, and tasty (although rotis a bit soggy). Beans roti well worth the price. But why I went to 4, is that the staff there are great. They were friendly & I enjoyed the chat while I waited.
