Some amazing old machines on display. It was Sunday so the museum was closed but the guard kindly let us onto the premises to photograph the old train etc.

Okiep Copper Company Museum
The museum can be more interesting if a guide can accompany visitors throughout the exhibition. Various rocks and other models just look nice but we failed to understand most of what is on display. Some explanations are printed in English and Afrikaans but for a person with no knowledge in copper mining still makes it challenging to understand.The open air exhibition was more informative. Joey accompany us and explained clearly the history and the different items on display.Entry fee is R15 per person and we find the visit partially worthwhile.

The museum is worth the stop over if you like to know a little history about a place, its not particularly a mind blowing experience but its interesting none the less they have managed to keep the memorabilia in as good as a state that one can. I liked the dam area that has emerald green water due to the copper.

Wanted to visit Okiep Mine, but could not find a location, only directions to Nababeep mine and most of the Nababeep mines inventory has been moved to Okiep, due to the mining that was restarted in Nababeep. This was very sad, we were looking forward to visiting the mine.

Okiep Copper Company Museum
The mine is back in operation and no visitors allowed. The museum looks permanently closed too. Very disappointing after a long drive. So don't bother.

Okiep Copper Company Museum
This museum is a gem at the entrance to the newly reopened copper mine. Our tour was informative and tour guides very passionate about the history of the area and community.

Okiep Copper Company Museum
A very friendly guy walked us around and even gave us access into the closed mine area. The museum itself was without electricity, the exhibits could not all be seen, the windowblinds were down. The old abandoned mine ist in ruins, the big hole very impressive. Some buildings are now used by others businesses, so the place is still busy.
