The Kalk Bay

One of the designers who has clothes in this store, said to my daughter that she could swap an item for another size here. The woman assistant was so rude, she made a big scene in the shop, refusing, pointing out her posters on the wall with the return policy. She was not interested in looking at the email my daughter received from the designer, we had to just leave. I will not recommend this store.

I had gone there to get outfits with my friends, we were giggling because we were having a good time. The lady started making a scene telling us that we aren’t taking it seriously, and saying if we aren’t going to try things on then we should leave. (The rooms we’re all full and we were waiting) Then she forced my little sister to try something on.

I don't think we have ever felt so unwelcome in a store. The lady working there acts as if your presence is an inconvenience. She barely acknowledges you until you have touched an item in any way that she may disapprove of. She has fluffy puppies hanging from the ceiling (not sure how she thinks children won't be drawn to that) my sister put down all of the 3 items that she had intended on buying. I feel awful for the artists/designers showcasing their work there. This lady runs customers out of there effortlessly.

I absolutely love this place. I got so many unique pieces for people back home and myself. One of the things I love about it is that so many of the pieces are made from small business owners. If you're into unique jewelry and accessories you have to check them out.

Bought a dress online. The dress was poorly made. The front is completely skewed.They were rude and didn't want to return the dress.I tried again (twice) to make contact: no reply!!!It was a very expensive dress for the bad quality and bad service.

Zero stars would be more accurate!! I would NEVER enter this shop again. I had a very bad experience with the owner. I can totally understand why the shop assistants would be on egde the whole time.(Check the comments on the bad reviews and you will catch the drift.)

I bought a dress there in December and ever time I wash it, it gets progressively shorter. I only wash using cold water. The clothes from this store are expensive but as seen in the pictures, the quality is lacking. Left picture is from December and the picture on the right is from February.

I have finally made the decision to NEVER go into this shop again. This is a crying shame as this little shop has been a destination point for ages. In the 90's as holiday makers, we would head for Kalk Bay and this shop. It was full of beautiful trinkets and crafty goodies. When we moved to Cape Town in 2000 it was a favourite day-tripper visit with it's statues outside the door. Did it change ownership? My children have grown up visiting this shop, delighting in its (up until recently) unusual and charming wares. We have spent a LOT of money in it. Now in the past few years, it's become more and more awkward in there. The various teller people are nice enough, but the woman with the shoulder-length dark hair who seems to be the manager/owner makes you feel positively unwelcome - to the point that you feel like an inconvenience. I have seen my young-adult daughter reprimanded as if she is a shoplifter! Two weeks ago we went in to look for gifts. This shopkeeper positively oozed all over my sister-in-law, but when my daughter went up to the counter to ask very politely, for the price of ear-rings, she was spoken to in such an unacceptably rude way, and dismissed with some comment to look harder and find the prices on the shelves. Kalk Bay Co-op you have finally lost some very loyal and very serious cusomers. If the appalling attitude hadn't made the decision for us, then the somewhat underwhelming and tired product range did.

Beautiful clothing, but did not buy anything even though I wanted to, because the lady working there was really unfriendly and rude. Very unnecessary, and not how anyone, especially customers, aught to be treated. Won't be back.

Lovely shop and items but not a friendly vibe. Lady working in the shop, promptly rearranges items like you have done something wrong after looking at them. It doesn't make you feel welcome and put me off buying anything.
