Tread Lite 4x4 hire

The Jimny proofed to be the ideal car for our roundtrip. Very capable offroad and small enough to drive without issue in the city. Stuart (and also Russell) is very friendly and helpful. With delivery and pickup at the hotel, we could not have wished for a better service. Highly recommended when visiting SA!

What a wonderful adventure!!! We were so sad to end our adventure after six days. The Jimny was more than capable to get us anywhere we want to be and therefore enabled us to see wonderful wildlife. The equipment was well thought out and made it so easy to set up camp and enjoy the African sunset.We would definitely recommend it to anyone who wants to experience a true outdoor adventure - we are already planning our next trip :-)

Look no further, Treadlight is the way to go for your upcoming overland trip in Southern Africa. They fill a much needed niche for the person who knows they do not need or want to pay for a fully loaded kitted-out Land Cruiser, but also want the independence and functionality of a very capable 4x4 with all the camping gear you do need. The Suzuki Jimny fills this need, and it can take almost anything you throw at it. I drove one of Treadlite’s Jimnys about 4,000km through South Africa, Eswatini, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, and Botswana. I went on terrible roads, deep sand, very remote areas, and mostly camped. It was the absolute perfect car for my situation and I felt more comfortable driving it than some of the larger vehicles I’ve rented in the past. Honestly, it’s awesome having a smaller car, it’s light in deep sand, easy to park, and can squeeze through tight traffic and overgrown roads.Treadlight also also did a fantastic job working with me to make my trip happen. I originally booked my vehicle for April 2020… due to Covid it was delayed significantly. They worked with me (and my initial deposit) to reschedule and modify my long and complicated trip, they were communicative, realistic, and most important honest during the whole process. I can’t recommend them enough.

Stuart and Sarah were so easy to deal with. Easy process to meet and pick up the car and leave within 10minutes, easy peasy to return. The Jimny was perfect for us - 10 Days OR Tambo-->Kruger-->Grietjie--~OR Tambo with 2 x 23kg Hold Luggage, 2 x Carry ons and food for 6 nights in the park. For longer trips add a roof box and 20Ltr Jerry Can. We will be using them each and every time we go back to South Africa.So much easier and cheaper than Europcar, Avis, etc.Thanks guys!

Tread Lite provides an exceptional vehicle hire service.The team proactively assisted where necessary at every point in the booking process to ensure we had everything we needed. The vehicle we dropped off and collected from our home as well, which was a huge help.We hired one of Tread Lite’s new Jimny’s with everything needed for our two week trip to Botswana. The vehicle itself was perfectly maintained and clean, and the inventory it carried (camping equipment etc) was high quality, clean and easy to pack and unpack into the car. We camped for two weeks and had absolutely everything we could possibly need.We won’t hesitate to book another trip in future with Tread Lite, and will recommend them to anyone else looking for a fully appointed vehicle to hire.Excellent all around!

I had a great experience with Tread Lite. They helped me finding the right equipment for my 4x4 and I have been assisted on everything, including the paperwork to cross the border with Namibia. The Jimny was great, I drove 4500km from Capetown to Namibia and back on any kind of road, including sandy roads in Kgalagadi Park and the car was perfect everywhere. I had a minor problem with the battery that I quickly solved (it was my fault!) and Tradlite assisted me immediately on the phone. I highly reccomend this company

For our trip in South Africa we were looking for a 4x4! Since most of the roads are paved but not all, and we wanted flexibility to go camping as well, we were looking for a slightly smaller and cheaper vehicle than the big safari trucks with rooftop tents. (They’re obviously grand, but a little overdone for SA)We found this little outfit and it proved a gem! The Suzuki Jimny is a very capable 4x4 that does everything you need off-road (e.g. 4x4 tracks in Kruger, Sani pass). It’s also higher than a regular road vehicle, which makes it far better for spotting wildlife.The car was also very well equipped, with a fridge, stove, camping table and seats and a tent. Unfortunately the tent is not as handy as the already mentioned rooftop tents, but if you’re not looking to camp every night, but still want the flexibility, this is fine. Of course the vehicle is slightly more sluggish on the highway, but trading against the off-road capabilities, that’s a small price to pay…Stuart, who runs the company, was also very helpful and flexible when we wanted to change our booking (return at a different location).Will rent here again if I return!

Highly recommend! We hired an automatic Jimny from Johannesburg for a 5 day trip to the Kruger Park during a visit from the UK and had an outstanding experience. The Jimny was perfect for us. We were really impressed with it. And service was excellent. It was great having a fridge in the back for our trips between rest camps and daily drives. There was ample space for our stuff with the Thule roof box we opted for so packing was very quick and easy. Communication was perfect and pick up and drop off was very smooth and efficient. We would definitely use Tread Lite again and recommend without hesitation.

Cannot recommend Stuart and his team at Tread Lite enough! I had the most fantastic trip around South Africa and Lesotho in a Suzuki Jimny. Drove thousands and thousands of kilometres solo without a hitch, including on some very rough roads. I loved how I was able to select what gear to include - everything I needed but nothing I didn't meant I had heaps of space in the car and it was super easy to load and unload every day. Stuart really went above and beyond to provide support when I was on the road, even offering to check on the car's location when I was travelling into some particularly rough roads (post drought-breaking rain in the Karoo) in areas with no phone reception. I've never had such fantastic service with any other car rental company, including well-known 4x4 rentals in Namibia. I can't wait to hire one of these awesome cars again and explore more of this astonishingly beautiful region!

EXCELLENT vehicle for Kruger. Our Jimny had great clearance, and handled the ruggedness of Africa with ease. Stuart is an excellent communicator. The process unfolded exactly as expected. Zero hesitation in recommending.
