I had the most traumatic experience here from what I thought would be a minor thing (wisdom tooth extraction). It landed me up in the casualty on a Saturday due to an abscess, they caused. To this day, I suffer with terrible jaw pains. My jaw is out off alignment. I have to go to a Chiropractor every 2 weeks for treatment. I can only eat soft foods otherwise I end up with a 4 hour headache. I wish I got a better Doctor/student that day.

It was just awesome as the level of care and professionalism shown as I extracted two (37&38) at once.Trust me, the student doctors are doing a great work with the help of their supervisors who sees what they are doing. Just wanna thank the government for the high tech equipments there and efficient delivery of service.

I went to Wits Dental on Sept 9th and apart from the queues being out of order therefore being attended to late, the service I received from Dr Molekwa and the assistant Dr Diane was impeccable. I had to have a broken tooth removed and they ensured that the process was smooth and pain-free. They made me feel like I was in good hands and indeed I was. Great job overall.

Went there yesterday and I received 5 star service. Everyone there is fantastic, their service is quick and cheap. Service of the doctor who did my x-ray was exceptional and it stood out, I just forgot to take her name, but it's the white beautiful lady with short black hair. I highly recommend it. Thanks team.

The staff and students in the clinic and x ray departments are great! However, the reception staff are rude and uncooperative. I was rated as a paying patient even though both my husband and I am unemployed. Then the doctor told me to make another appointment and ask to be screened for dentures. When I did this I was treated as if I was asking for a favour, no appointment was scheduled and I was dismissed like a dog.

I have received excellent treatment from students and the professors at this teaching hospital. In one instance, I had a tooth extracted by a student who was doing the procedure for the first time. The instructor showed her how to insert the needle and I felt no pain at all when the injection was given and whilst the tooth was removed, even though it was a molar. I was helped with a complex dental emergency the first time I went to the hospital. Expect long waiting times and the Covid-19 screening takes a while but if you need great dental services but cannot afford them, this is the place to get help. Everything is possible here - even implants, but patience is key. The place is clean and everything is done in a very professional way. You cannot get privacy as this is a teaching hospital and you need to be OK with students working on your teeth. Bring along your ID, proof of residence and 3 months bank statements when you first attend, as well as the referral letter from your doctor or dentist. You can expect a long wait so bring water and food. Arrive as early as you can - before 6am is best. If you are coughing, they won't be able to treat you so try to get yourself into the best shape possible before visiting the clinic.

Excellent treatment both from students and professors. Long journey but worth it. Final result were perfect dentures. The process took longer because of covid and the hospital burning.I had a root canal, gum, fillings, teeth cleaning and whitening treatments.I paid with a bright smile,no more gaps and All for free as I'm a pensioner.

The Clinic is a teaching facility of Wits University. You are seen firstly by a dentist who does an assessment of what is needed and then are referred for treatment. Depending on the urgency of the treatment required, you may be referred to a student, be asked to make an appointment or be put on a waiting list. When you are seen by a student, your treatment is supervised by a university professor. As the student and treatment is part of training and is being supervised, it is thorough and comprehensive but each visit takes a longer time in the bench than if you were with a qualified dentist. Treatment may also require several visits. What is not good about the facility is the beurocracy, long queues and waiting times can be long as a result. The equipment is quite modern. What is encouraging is thst it is a space that is very diverse with both lecturers and students reflecting the diversity of South Africa. This leaves you with a sense of hope that South Africa is finally transforming.

I will never visit a regular private dentist again. If you are a patient patient, this is a super inexpensive great service! Well done Wits Dental!
