We had never planned to stay here - we were in the area to do the Sentinel Peak hike but when our car broke down the team and the lodge helped us with a tow and a mechanic. Being a Sunday they also kindly accommodated us for a last minute booking. The staff were so friendly. The food was delicious. The inclusive breakfast was exactly what you need after/before hiking days! The lodge is perfectly situated in the mountains for access to hiking, beautiful views and the sunrise of your dreams! Our room was one of the bungalows which was very clean and comfortable. In the cool mountain weather it was our best sleep yet! We are so grateful for the generosity of the manager and the team. Thank you so much.

Stayed a night before a hike...accomodation was super, neat, lovely views, comfy beds, electric blankets. Dinner and breakfast great ... lunch on arrival day, very confused with reluctant waitress. Coffee is free and cold on all occasions, perhaps a new urn could be bought. The award for rudest employee goes to the receptionist who on arrival told me she had changed check in time from 2pm to 3pm. I told her that our reservation showed check in at 2pm and she said I ve changed it now and we are not ready. She was obnoxious and aggressive. Our party booked 2 shuttles to Sentinel car park, the trail head. On departure day they were late, on return day only 1 was available and it fetched us 1h 30 late. And had to do numerous trips. Beautiful spot, but service and general willingness could really catch a wake up

It's clean and the view is amazing. Only 25% of the staff looks happy to give you service. Somehow the staff doesn't look like they like their job. The food is good enough.

What a lovely weekend at Witsieshoek. We booked our accommodation here because it's the only lodge and closest lodge to Sentinel Car Park. They offer shuttle service from Witsieshoek to Sentinel car park for R185 per person return. It is double cab Toyota bakkies with canopies on. 4 sit in front and 4 sit at the back. There are mattresses at the back. They go up 06h00, 07h30 and 09h30. You have to book your spot in advance to avoid disappointment. You whatsapp them as soon as you are done with the hike, then they will come and fetch you, they wait a few minutes to fill the bakkie before coming back down. Road to Sentinel car park is horrible, only high 4x4 can drive there.Room was absolutely perfect. We were in Sentinel 2. Best room at the lodge. Spacious, beautiful view of Sentinel Peak and Amphitheater. 2x heaters, electric blanket and blankets on top of the bed. Will net get cold here. Clean, hot water, coffee and tea available in room. May not cook own food in room. We took the dinner, bed and breakfast option. We missed breakfast before the hike. But didn't know that they can give you a food pack with on the hike. There are 2x time slots for dinner, 17h30 to 19h30, and then 19h30 to 21h00. The 1st dinner slot was full when we checked in, thus had to wait for slot 2, and we waited till 20h45 for our dinner. That was really unacceptable.Rest of the lodge was great. Staff was friendly.

An absolutely magnificent base from which to explore the northern Drakensberg. We overnighted here before commencing the Drakensberg Grand Traverse over thirteen days. The accommodation was comfortable and the food was decent. My steak was pleasingly done to my order and delicious, but the mushroom soup starter was somewhat uninspired, as was the vegetarian curry. The buffet breakfast was fantastic - nothing fancy, but a great range of the classic cooked breakfast basics. I fell in love with the baby cheese griller sausages, and am considering going back simply to have more of them. The bar has a proper espresso machine but, alas, no one with any proper barrister training. When the person taking the order on the other side of the bar didn't know what a Flat White was, I should have (in retrospect) changed my order, or asked to make it myself. The concession cappuccino was disappointing. The milk was long-life milk, which has a peculiar taste from the UHT process that I don't fancy with my coffee, and furthermore it was over steamed. I would advise any other coffee lovers to rather make use of the bottomless filter coffee made available at the tea table and avoid the milk altogether.I really approve of the layout and design of the buildings which are staggered at slightly different heights, preventing them from completely blocking the view of the other neighbouring buildings. Consequently, the views from almost all of the rooms range from great to spectacular. The architect deserves recognition for the accomplishment!

Disappointed with the poor organization around the ‘shuttle service’ to the hike - it’s a 1.5hr turnaround time so long waits before and after hike. Very small dining area not able to accommodate all guests- long waiting times for table and food. Reception staff very unfriendly but restaurant staff very kind- think overall not enough staff for peak periods.Bungalow very basic, needs upgrade of furniture but luxury room very good size and beautiful view

Great stay at the base of Sentinel Peak and the hike to Tugela Falls. The staff was very accommodating and arranged for a 4x4 shuttle to the car park/trailhead for our hike. Our shuttle driver had excellent 4x4 driving skills for the 40 minute drive to the trailhead and was there timely for our return back. Breakfast and dinner were very nice as was the service. Our room was very comfortable, clean and warm! Highly recommend this very unique setting to launch your adventures into Royal Natal National Park.

One of the best hotels for the whole trip. Perfect mattress, soft feather pillow, blackout curtains, comfortable shower. Everything is well designed and reasoned. Not cheap at all, but value for money is high enough except for the service. It's absolutely awful. We had to wait an ages for our order in the restaurant (btw, food is also so-so). Breakfast is included, but they just forgot to prepare it for the time of tracking transfer. And finally we were delayed for almost one hour waiting for our sandwiches with nothing.

I stayed for 2 nights at the backpacker room - basic but clean, with a pantry stocked with coffee and tea. Amazing views even at the backpacker rooms. The lodge itself is in an incredible location, with easy access to many trails.

We were day visitors and had brunch there. I am generally never one to complain, however the attitude and unprofessiliam of both Grace and Gugu ( the ladies at reception) was quite frankly disappointing. Not only did were we ignored when we needed our change. They were making us wait and giggling and talking in their language as if everything was a joke.Pity a visit I was so excited about left a bitter taste in my mouth
